Default brazing question

i found some aluminum brazing rods at work and was wondering if they would work on some solid rod to make a cage and bumpers. i have no idea what the rods are exactly cause the label is wore off. i tried a propane torch on one and it melted it down. any help would be great.

oh and also would i need to use any kind of solder paste?

Aluminum takes a metric crap ton of practice to get right, or to even get two pieces stuck together via brazing.

I have just recently started toying around with aluminum brazing. I would say watch a few videos on it and just do some practice on some scrap. It's not really as difficult to do as some people make it out to be.

I've seen Harris Stay-Brite, I think that's the flux needed for aluminum brazing. Beyond that, I'm no help on the subject.

Stay-brite is a general purpose lead-free solder for nearly everything BUT aluminum.
