| Trx4 8038 light kit with a Hobbywing 1080??
The 8038 light kit is made to work with the xl5 esc and I have a Hobbywing 1080 so how do I make it work without the aux on the xl5 and with my 1080? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's easy if you have an extra Futuba connector laying around(fried servo or something). I've been using this setup for a while now with no issues. On the traxxas power supply there are the 2 plugs, red JST and black futuba. Black Futuba is easy, it can just be plugged into an open receiver slot OR spliced to the positive of the black wires(the one with white/gray bars/markings) For the red JST you need to convert that to a futuba connector(I used a dead servos connector) black to black, red to black with white/gray bars/markings. The HW1080 program port outputs ~6v, I plugged the traxxas power supply with newly spliced futuba connector into that. |

I have the same setup. I ended up soldering a female JST connector to the JST cable coming from the Traxas 8038 power unit and then plugged it into the port on the 1080 ESC. I've had no troubles running it like that. I only remove it when I need to use my program card to change settings on my 1080.

The red JST auxiliary plug on the original XL5 ESC is actual battery voltage. The red JST connector on the light power supply power input is also battery voltage when using the XL5 ESC. To use the HW1080 simply splice a short JST female pigtail on with the XT60 battery connector as a tap for battery voltage. Then the black connector plugs into any open slot on your receiver and functions as an on/off switch. Also, TRX4 questions should be placed in the TRX4 specific section below. Questuion to the poeple who soldered the powersupply directly to the battery voltage. Do you use 2s or 3s lipo?
