Soya and I got the structure built today. We need to work on the electronics tomorrow. Then we need to disassemble and lighten the components.

Looks nice, I like the 3" tube chassis. What's the wheelbase?

Yeah we where aiming for a 16'' but I guess stuff happens. I think we forgot to compensate for the link angle. So Soya checked it today and it was at 15". Oh well I guess it's fitting for the belly draging terrain around here anyways.

Soya and I took the truck for a short drive around the basement/work area.
Not much to crawl over but we tested the truck out. The change from a rooster to the super rooster fixed all of the problems we where having with glitching in the past.

We found a place to mount the battery on the axle. I'll work on making the bits to mount it this week.

how much did the tubing cost per foot? I'm seriously considering doing this to my maxx and will probably use the square tube chassis.

I got a 12" section for under $5, but it was a drop piece. expect anywhere from 10-25 per foot.

It's just 2 pieces of bar stock with holes in it. I can't take a picture of it because the truck isn't with me. Maybe mnster will take a picture to show it.

Yeah I just mounted it with some 1/4 x1/2 bar stock. I mounted it with two screws for easy removal. In order to change the spur gear you will have to remove the tranny so I kept it easy.

This week we will maybe work on mounting the old body. Then test it out somewhere and get some better pictures. Once we are sure everything is mounted perfect we will start the lightening process.

Well Soya's been driving it around for a while. We found a few problems with the battery mount location. So it looks like I'm going to have to make one that's mounted a little better and out of the way. Soya left his truck over at my house over the weekend. So I got bored and felt like milling something. I milled several lighting slots in the chassis the chassis now weighs nearly half as much. The slots also helped with routing the wires through the chassis and making the truck easier to disassemble. Plus it makes it look much cooler. I sanded and polished the chassis. I mounted the shocks closer to chassis gaining more articulation and side clearance. Last weekend while making the body posts Soya and I snapped two 6/32 taps in two of the posts. So I'll have to stop and pick some up tomorrow.

We still have problems to address on this rig like.

1. Flexy RPM arms (they flex and screw up the steering and alignment stuff)

2. Fix the lower bent steering link
(From popping out and flopping around is mostly do to problem 1)

3. Wheel lifting (on hills the axles like to lift tires because it's a shafty)

We are waiting on some cvd's for the front, more connectors for the battery wires, gears for my clod, a few spare servos and 4 SMC 3600 packs. Then off we go to the largest granite outcropping in Wisconsin for two days of fun.

Here are some updated pics

Looks sweet, very clean chassis.

You could fix alot of your torque twist problems by mounting the lower shock mounts on the centerline of the axles instead of the lower links. You will probably have to fab up some upper shock mounts extending off the main chassis to keep your shocks at there present angle, maybe even a little more vertical.
