Default Aluminum motor plate necessary?

Working on my TRX-4 and I noticed it has a multi-piece motor mount system. Has anyone had issues with eating spur gears or pinions? Is the plastic motor plate durable and does it hold the gear mesh OK?

I've ran my Mamba X and 2850kv slate on 4s, and done donuts spinning like a top. Had no issues with the stock setup.

I had some loud mesh issues when I first got my Trx but once I fixed that I haven't had any issues at all. Just a couple small strips of tape under the motor plate got the mesh perfect and nice and quite. Stock motor mount works just fine for me

My two trx4's get abused pretty good... no issues ever with oem plate. Quality plastic.

Plastic is fine. Aluminum motor plate will also act as a small heatsink to cool the motor.

I've always wondered about this. I have an alumumin motor plate on my Traxxas Slash 2wd, and I haven't noticed any difference in motor temps.

Has anyone been able to test this further? Maybe it's different with this truck?

I don't really think it will make any HUGE difference, but it could help a bit.

What brimdogg said. I don't think it's going to make a lot of difference, but it won't hurt.

A heat sink needs a lot of surface area, which is the main reason for "fins" on real heatsinks, and a cooling fluid to travel over them. In this case that would just be air. How much air will get to the motor mount? Probably not all that much because of where it's located on the truck.

My stock mount wiggled a little bit even when new. A strip of electrical tape across the top has snugged it up for the past year, so no plans for an aluminum mount here.
