Default 416 miles on stock CVD's.

After 416 miles I finally got hold of some replacement CVD's. Just in time by the looks of it!

Traxxas CVD's out of stock here in the UK so trying the GPM Black Steel.

For those who recall my axle plugging mod with a o-ring...it looks like it has wore away the shaft! Tough rubber or poor metals? Haha.

You did that O-ring mod to keep out mud and water right? I would think that the mud did it, it is abrasive.

Oooh yeah....good point! Can I live with it? The axle internals are in much better condition since I did the mod....I think I'll leave em. I due try and keep em lubed as well.

How do you know you got 400 miles on it?

Probably a walking app or iphone. I glance at mine after I'm done playing but haven't recorded the total so far, its usually a couple miles though.

Hello. You can measure your routes on Google maps. I decided to do it when I bought the TRX4 as I was always curious with my other rigs...I'm maybe a little OCD. Haha.

Wow, the notching in the balls and on the pins is extreme. Surprised you didnt snap them. I predict the GPM replacements don't last near as long. Keep us updated.

Yeah am interested to see how they do. They feel heavy and well built and for $8 it was worth a try. Think they were on offer for black Friday.

I had been driving cautiously waiting for these to arrive. Haha.

Hi...I'd love to drive it everyday! I have had it three years. The first year I was out a lot. Covered 240 odd miles. Then I bought a house so that got in the way in year two...only covered 60 odd...this year I've done ok with over 100 so far. My trails run usually between 4-8 miles.

I've had a few trucks over the years and can say in all honesty this has been my favourite. Not once has it failed on a run and left me carrying it. It's a great piece of engineering. The portals and lockers make it superb for trailing. :-)

They definitely are amazing trucks, when you treat them right Seriously though, they are great vehicles and I would definitely buy another one. My favorite RC I've had as well as the most reliable. The lockers and hi/low gear are my favorite part about it, gives an extra challenge other than locked diffs 100% of the time.

Yeah you have to treat them nice haha! I learnt a long time ago carrying a 10lb muddy truck back to the car is hard work if your a few miles into a trail! It's in my favour to drive in a manner that gets it back home.

I also ensure I have enough batteries and spare for the transmitter...the longest run I did was 10.1 miles and I was getting a little worried when on my last lipo as to whether I would make it back. Hehe...

A gps watch is another option. Use mine all the time for walks and outdoor activities.

Good idea! My phone tell lies about the milage...but then I tend to underestimate using Google maps...

I just checked the centre drive shafts and the front was about to fail! Paper thin pin! Rear is ok for now...still stock shafts in use. Never rebuilt just lubed.

Yup those would have broken soon. Judging by the rust, you may want to step up your lubrication program.

That's impressive. I don't expect GPM to last nearly as long as the Traxxas parts sadly.

This kinda makes me wonder, I have documented over 350 miles of hiking with my trx4 bronco. Admittedly my philosophy on mechanical repairs is that it's a lot easier to identify the problem when the simple stuff breaks and falls out of the way.
I'll have to take a look at my rig and see what it's up to.
Thanks for the info.

Yup - I seem to have failed with these shafts! Everything else is nice and marine greasy.

I'm interested to see. They feel quite heavy duty. I'll update the post in the future.

My pleasure. I try and re grease axles and portals every 100 miles unless I have been in salt water then I will check em. I have only done the transmission once and it was perfect inside.

After every run I hose it down and WD40 it. I live in a wet and muddy England so there is a lot of rust on the chassis and links... but it is scale! Especially on a Landover. Haha.
