I've been splitting my drive time between the phoenix and my vs410 but I made a few changes to the phoenix and had my 1st break. I was stuck at the house yesterday so I headed out to my old backyard track to just goof off with my new found rear wheel drive. As soon as I set the truck down and went under power I had the dreaed "click" from the transmission. Turns out I broke a tooth off a gear in the transfer case part of the trans. Fortunatly they are cheap and in stock.

I wonder if there are any plans to make machined gears for the whole phoenix trans?

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard Josh say they will be making a machined gear set.

For some reason I’ve missed a bunch of your updates, stupid Tapatalk.

Truck is looking great, I too dislike the bump in the cab to cover the dig servo, nice solution!

I'm amazed at how much more quite my truck is after new gears and bearing in the transmission! There wasn't a huge amount of wear on the gears but one did loose a tooth as I said. Some of the bearings had a bit of corrosion on them and a little bit of grit in a few. i picked up some protek rubber sealed bearings and replaced the whole transmissions worth, regreased the shafts and installed new gears last night. Had a good 3-4 mile cruise on the trails last night in silent bliss (not really but it sounded better)

That's good info to know. I'll keep this in mind if or when mine ever gets loud.

Well crap. Broke that same idler gear in the trans again. I emailed VP and they say that the hardened gears for the twin are in the works. In the mean time on the suggestion of a FB group member I'm going to try the metal bearing plates to see if they help. I figure if it keeps the shafts from deflecting it will help with gear mesh. Also going to make a hole in my spur/pinion cover to make slipper adjustments easier and try running that a little more loose.

Also, I swapped to the factory 80mm shocks for the stock incision shocks from my pro. I like the look of the shocks but it really needs some shorter springs. I've got the collars all the way up and still not low enough. I may buy another set of the pittbull shocks for the phoenix but dang they are expensive!

The Phoenix looks great! Those pitbull RBX work really well from what I have found. especially on the wet rocks.
I have had a few of the same issues on my Phoenix. Trans binding (Left out the bottom screw and fake trans tunnel), a broken Idler gear in the trans (VP warrantied it). I took my Mamba X and Slate out and put brushed in until they release the machined gears for the twin.

That sucks to hear yall having issues. I run a mamba x n 2850kv slate on 4s in mine with no issues so far, knock on wood. The only problem i have had, is if i try to run the dig on ch3 of the gt5 radio. It doesnt always engage/disengage properly. Got it on ch4 (3 pos switch) n it works perfect. Hopefully yall get things lined out soon

I haven't had an issue with my gears, but I've rebuilt one trans for a friend that broke the same gear. Now that you say it, I built my trans with the aluminum bearing plates so maybe that's the culprit, since yours and my buddies are both using the plastic kit bearing plates.

Ran the truck this weekend for about 2 hours with no issues. Only time will tell if the aluminum bearing plates really help. In theory they should.

Also, SSD brass rings are heavy!

So I had swapped the 90mm incision shocks from my 410 onto the phoenix a few weeks ago. On the 2nd to last run I installed 3mm worth of limiting spacers to the inside of the shocks. I really liked the ride height and was able to use all of the travel with minimal rub on the body. But, they leaked like crazy. No matter what I did, no matter how many rebuild kits or how much green slime I used they still leaked. I even polished the shafts on the last rebuild with some chrome polish to remove the micro-scratches. I've built dozens of shocks in my 30 years in the hobby but these things have me beat. I wasn't going to invest anymore time or oil in them.

I liked the look of the black and silver but after an hour half the oil was gone and the truck topped out, bottomed out and wallowed everywhere.

I had installed some pitbull shocks on my 410 before swapping the incision shocks onto the phoenix. They are great but damn that price ($90 a PAIR!). I have about 10-15 hours on the PB shocks with no leaks. And they look amazing. With that in mind I bit the bullet and installed some on the phoenix. Fortunatly I've bought enough stuff from the LHS to get a decent discount on them so it stung a little less.

I went with the 90mm version and picked up the new short rod ends from Incision. They keep the shock total length as short as possible but still allow for full shaft stroke (LOL). I couldn't use the cool two piece springs because the slider part wouldn't go over the funky shock end. I may split them in the future to try out the other springs but for now the supplied single spring works very well. Filled with losi 40wt and hit the trails.

I've got some video to upload to youtube and I'll post back.
