I got a chance to try the inserts on my normal trails. I'm really impressed. They hold side hills really well and let the tread do the work. I did buy another set that is labeled as dual stage to try a well. I figure I'll do some swapping around and end up with a set in my Phoenix as well, I installed a set of the tuning disks as well this time and re-aranged my foamy things to the inside of the front set and the outside of the rear. While the tires had good side hill support with fewer foamy things they did tend to runa little low in the rear when climbing on higher traction surfaces. I'd say it was like running 6# of air instead of the 10# I was needing. The tire on the left has a tuning disk and the one on the right is just the insert (mounted to SSD wheels) This is my current front setup and the rears are the opposite with all the foamy things to the outside. The tuning disk is a gold color material. I don't think they are any softer or stiffer than the black insert material but the added width is nice |

Had a few runs at a state park about 3 hours south of us (little beaver) and I'm really impressed with the inserts. I alos added the SSD brass rings to both of my vehicles front and rear. I think the pro can climb anything now. |

The 410 went under the knife again. Chopped the rear frame horns off and welded/brazed on some straight pieces from my sacrificial axial frame. I'll admit to fudging up and cutting the sections I welded on a little short and having to move everything forward. But it ended up being a good thing and filling up the bed a little better when I moved the fuel tank forward. With the same ride height the rear of the truck went from 3 3/4" to just under 4 1/2". A much needed update to this truck. I haven't been out too much but did do a 1:1 wheeling trip to Windrock park in Tennessee. I wanted to do a cab only body so I could build a rear bed area cage. I haven't gotten to do any tiny-truck fab work in a while so I'm looking forward to it. Still figuring out how I'll mount the body but I've ordered a couple magnetic systems to try and eliminate body clips and posts. Never had any lock with them but this system has an interesting way of capturing the magnets to prevent for-aft movement. |

A little more progress. Not really happy with the magnetic body mounts. Bought a new tube of shoe-goo and tried a second time. They are sticking well but the extra shoe-goo around the edges is keeping the magnets from sitting flush in the bases and then that is keeping them from having a real good mechanical edge to rest against and allowing some movement. It isn't that bad but I hoped for better. I'm happy with the way I was able to hide the dig servo inside the tool/strap box I had printed. Just cut the bottom out big enough to put over the servo and used the servo mounting screws through the box. Nice and tidy. I had raised the nose of this frame to gain a better approach angle and it worked really well with this cliff hanger body. Only had to clearance a little bit to get the bumper right up in the grill. |
