Time for exhaust. This was a bit of a pain.. I tried to make this fit when the interior panel was on, and I couldn't get it all around the frame and stuff, so it was time to get it done now. There's only one attachment point, as I pancaked the one end of the exhaust tube and drilled a hole in it and screwed it to the top of the Tcase mount bolt. This works great by holding it flat, and keeping it from twisting around. Kind of a nice accident it worked out this way! While I was in there, I put the linkage on for the 2 speed shifter. It's a 9 gram HXT servo, and the stock horn, and then a 1/32 bent solid airplane wire for the pushrod. Lots of power for a tiny shifter mechanism. I married the pushrod to the trans with a wheel collar. |

Cool video, the trucks both look great! If you are ever bored (and you would have to be very bored) you could try to bend up a flat bar grille guard like the mil spec's usually had. I dont think the truck really needs it as the bumpers look great by themselves but it could add one more little touch and even protect the grille you put so much work into. I found the vid really cool, I have had a ton of blazers including military and also one of my favorites was a 77 that was yellow and white though mine was butternut yellow not a mustard color. Thanks for the comments, guys! I'd really like to make a thin metal grille guard for this, but I'd have to get some brazing stuff together and likely make it from brass anyway. I would like steel, but don't think I can get some decent pre-sized material that small. I don't want to have to strip it all from sheet and then try to make it straight and clean after. I'm sure the exhaust pipe will be dirty soon enough! It's a fresh install afterall! haha |

Thanks, you old man! Rich painted the camo on the outside, using a pencil to outline stuff after spraying the base coat of green. The colors were brushed on the outside after wards by hand. Not as precise as a stencil for sure, but works great.

How about wiper blade inserts for the grille guard metal? they are usually steel and might be around the right size. (cheap too if you shop bargain stores)

Details are awesome. My only question is the exhaust. Mine comes out on the drivers side on my '87. Is it different on the MIL ones? |

I doubt it, you're likely correct. Maybe the pics I found are reversed!

The tell tell sign is to look for the fuel filler door. It's on the passenger side. ;)

If you got questions or need pics, just let me know. Being mine is a '87 it is basically the same as the '86. And there are some old Mil Chevy trucks around where I work as well. I could beat you up more on the interior but I wont. ;) I love all of the thought and detail you've put into it. Way more than I'll ever do. So no tire rub on the body? I went and trimmed off just a little on the back of the front wheel opening and the font of the rear opening. Not much but just enough to clear the tires. I didn't want to narrow the axles any. No tire rub here, but it's a small tire for sure.
