Default shock issues on my ascender

When I got the truck the stock shock oil was way to slow so I went with 15 weight which worked great for the first run now it seems to be slow but just on one side should I just get new shocks?

The stock shocks have some issues, mainly the holes inside the shocks are covered by a washer or clip. I bought a set of the aluminum shocks Vaterra makes and I am impressed with those. Definately nice shocks.

Notching the pistons to allow the oil to flow also helps.

With my kit,I ditched the shock fluid and went with 30 weight Associated silicone fluid and bored out the piston holes. Nice and smooth. Also, build them using Green Slime.

Anyone know what weight oil the aluminum ascender shocks come with?

They come with 35w but not quite Losi 35w was how it was put to me, so probably 30-33 I'd say.

New2Rocks do you have any pictures or a guide on how to notch the pistons?

I am also having shocks that are slow to rebound and looking at what I can possibly look at fixing. LHS suggested a silicone shock fluid with a weight of I believe 27.5. I used what they suggested and when bringing it in they thought I might have too much fluid in the shocks. Bled some out but now I have some droop and still very slow responding shocks. Looking to improve the stock shocks before trying to spend money on new shocks. In other words, not 100% sure I have built mine properly and want to try to fix them before shelling out big $$$ for new shocks.

Advice appreciated.

No guide needed, just drill out the hole with a bit in the 1-1.5mm range.

Hey guys, just curious - is there anyone, using the shocks without any oil? Im asking, because i did that to my CC-01 and it was perfect. Im for the most part trail running and i think the shocks are too stiff on Ascender (just from the videos out there). Maybe this truck is a whole different story than CC-01, but still i wanted to ask.

x2, just get some small drill bits (I have a whole set of small numbered bits) find a size that is little bigger than stock holes, drill them out, put some quality 30wt oil in and test.

#55 is little bigger than 1.3mm...Losi race buggy shocks used to come with #55, #57 three hole pistons for tuning.
