Thanxs guys. I'm not going to replace the HD driveshafts until they break, which hopefully won't be anytime soon....except if I stay with 4S power!

Nice job Bil. This thread really makes me want an Ascender. I'm trying to hold off and see how the HPI Venture compares.

I can't help but think "Bronco" when I look at your pictures. Without the separate bed, that Ford looks like a pop-top Bronco. I'm a big Bronco/Blazer/Ramcharger fan, so that's a good thing.

I completely agree with you GLHS592, it reminds me more of a topless '79 Bronco than it does an F150. Either way, I like them both!

I'm running a Tekin ROC 412 1800 kV motor, so even with 4S power, it doesn't even come close to the top end power of a 3100 kV motor with 3S....it just means I have a shitload of low end stump pulling power!

Actually it just means you won't go as fast with equal voltage, gearing, and quality of materials in the motors. Torque doesn't go up in brushless motors when KVs go down.

That is one of those topics that will definitely get Holmes up on his soapbox.

All I can say is that there is a significant difference in power between 3S and 4S using the same motor without a gear change. As Mr. Holmes says: volt up, gear down!

I bet the stock driveshafts hold up well to your ROC412 and 4S, but obviously they will have a shorter lifespan.

Why wait when there's a known great Ascender platform available. Jump in, the water's fine! The Bronco top off look/pickup really works with this body and paint job!

A few improvements.....

Swapped out the SSD hubs for Vanquish .475 SLW hubs. When sitting still there's about 1 mm of clearance between the tie rod link ends and the inner tire wall. When the tire flexes there is contact, so the new hubs will completely eliminate any clearance issues; plus the added benefit of a slightly wider track width. TW is now @ 9.75". Truck looks a little more "Redneck" with the tires sticking out beyond the fenders.

I swapped the rear lower high clearance links end to end so that the run parallel with the driveshaft. Theoretically, this will help the rig from sliding on the driveshaft; better to slide on the links.

I contoured the bottom edge of the mud shields I fabricated. I could tell that they were sliding on the rocks from all the scrapes on the bottom edge; obviously it's better to have less surface area scraping that would create unwanted friction.

I like to say he wrong, but I work with a lot of 'em.

I once was listening to two of them talking about cow $#%+. One says "close your window I smell cow shit" the other says "I kinda like it", then opens his window fully, the other replys "its cause you from dewberry, everything smells like that over there"

I just sat back and started thinking that the towns these two are from are only ten mins apart, they probably both smell like that...made me start giggling to myself.

What do you think about a Holmes bl 540 pro 3300. Too much for a 1.9 or not.

The Trailmaster version? If so, yes way too much. I have one in my Wroncho and it's an animal and it's not even the pro version.

The sport version costs just as much when you add cables and sensor wire. What's comparable to your Tekin in his lineup when it comes to sensor less brushless. Seems like the Tekin is a little pricey for the rig?

You can certainly go with the Trailaster 2700 kV motor and gear accordingly. Even though 4 pole is better, my Wroncho with the 2 pole 3300 kV motor has exceptional low end resolution and control.

Just want to get it right this time since the puller pro I got for my bomber just made it way too fast for a crawler. So I want to buy once. The right way.

I don't see any reason why the 2700 kV wouldn't be a bad choice. I would contact Holmes to confirm.
