| K10 Ascender wobbly wheels
I just purchased my RTR Ascender last Friday. Yesterday I was finally able to get a battery in it and give it a test run. Both rear wheels have a bit of wobble in them out of the box. I've checked the nuts on the wheels and they're snug. My plan was to pull apart the rear axle and make sure everything is as it should be. Has anyone else noticed this on their RTR rigs? If so, what was the culprit? |

Pull the wheels off and check that the wheel hexes are properly installed on the axle with the screwpins that go through the hex and axle. If this is ok, then smoosh the tires around to seat the foams and even them out inside the tires, drive it a bit and post back. |

Usualy it hapens that when the car is sitting inside the box for a long period and the foams are catching a flat shape on the sitting side.It takes a while to get back to the actual shape,or if not, just replace them with new foams. Its a common problem to all producers.Don't understand why they don't lift the model so it doesnt sit on the wheels

I think it might just be a good excuse to get a nice set of bead lock wheels and foams. That will fix what ails it. I pulled the rear end apart last night and checked everything out. All was well in the rear so it has to be either the foams or the plastic rims are warped. It's little things like this that bring out my OCD. |

I'm sure if the rims were defective, Vaterra would fix the issue...

It's probably just poorly installed foams or flat spots from sitting..

Last night I did Natedog's front bumper mod. I found it easier to leave the brackets on the truck while cutting so that I cut the proper angle on the bracket. The results are amazing. Thanks for posting such great reference pics. Next up will be the shock mod. One thing I cannot get over is the amount of flex this truck has out of the box. While there is definitely room for improvement it's still quite a capable truck without any modifications. but you all already know this. Makes me wish I'd have bought a crawler years ago when I got into RC. I was just goofing off climbing in and out of my shop at different angles trying to roll the truck. | Re: K10 Ascender wobbly wheels and more tinkering
Had the day off yesterday and no kids! So, decided to tinker with my K10. New wheel wells were built and added. (Those plastic containers that lunch meat are packaged in come in real handy!) Not too happy with the LF fender well so I plan on redoing it. Also put together some simple scale items to add to the truck. Started by painting the back side silver with copper (rust) accents. Then put a coat of black over everything. Happy with the end result. Mostly. Looks a lot cleaner than looking into the empty void. And the scale accessories I made. Nothing too special. |

There are two ways you could go with the lower holes. either punch a hole to put the screw through. OR.. I had a couple that I didn't have enough left over to get a full hole so I just notched the bottom of the inner fender where the screw was and used the head of the screw to hold the fender in place. Here are the inner fenders I built for my K5 last weekend. Same concept just a different look as the K5 has more of a squared off fender. You can see all the holes I punched prior to laying paint. I even made a hole to give access to the body post mounts. Figure would be easier than having to take off wheel wells anytime I wanted to fiddle with the body posts. The left hand set is the rear with the front on the right. Here's a view of my K10 wheel well. I need to redo this one as I have it a little too far back which is causing some rubbing. Some tips: Paint is LAST! Keep them clear as long as possible to lay out hole locations. Leave them bigger than necessary before mounting. I do rough cuts, then mount to the top of the shock first. After that is done you can trace your frame rail and mark screws you want to use for mounting then trim the excess to hide them under the body should any be hanging low. Hope this helps! | |

Finally decided to pull the trigger on some sliders for the K10. Well, for WB2, the SSD sliders look ok on the K10. There's about a half inch gap between the body and slider. I'm curious as to when we might get more body options for the 290mm wheelbase? I've not had much luck finding anything. I think the sliders would look a lot more at home with a different body. Since I had to swap out the battery tray mounts I decided to throw them in as rear link risers as many of you have done. I used some styrene to make a spacer to allow me to use them. |

Finally got the K10 out for some running after making my latest tweaks. I must say, I love, love, love how this truck drives. I don't know about the rest of you guys who have both but I prefer this truck over the K5. I also just made an order from RPP which should show up this week. Some RC4WD Pro10 1.9 stamped steel beadlocks (yes I got the hex hub adapters) with a set of RC4WD Compass tires. So, can't wait to put some new shoes on this. |
