Question hammers gear cover on or off?

? for you hammer owners do you leave the gear cover on?
I leave mine off all the time and was wondering if it may be better left on?
I heard a long time back some guy's saying to take it off because it gets small pebbles inside and then they end up getting in the gears and bugger things up.

so cover on or cover off?

Thanks

I too had issues with debri collecting inside the gear cover. The culprit seemed to be that there are small gaps on each side of the sliding motor mount. I cut up small strips of foam earplugs to stuff in the gaps and I'd say that the cover now keeps out 98% of the crud.

Where do you run that you can get away without a cover? I run in a lot of sand/mud/snow/ dusty dirty and destroyed a few spurs in a matter of weeks till I "plugged the holes".

I would have never thought to run with it off, or even check for holes to plug. Now I will have to take a closer look. BTW, nice vid - really giving your TH a workout there. Subscribed

If you do not plug all the holes on the motor side, you may as well leave it off. With it off the junk can just pass through then. I would seal it up.
