twin hammers pinion size question

im runing stock spur gear and pinion but motor gets extremely hot im runing a tekin fxr with a13 t motor what you guys recommend as far as pinion size*

I am running 26t pinion 88t spur 48p with my own hand wound 13t single. I have no heat issues and it gives me a good crawl speed with some top speed as well.

But I am finally going to move into the brushless world it is on its way

You really need a cheap-o Temp gun. They cost about 10 dollars. Aim for around 150 degrees, and you will have plenty of safety. Stock pinion is 28 tooth, ans stock spur is 78.

I would suggest you get one of these sets for another 10 dollars and it has 6 pinions to choose from:

I say drive it like you stole it. Are you running around in high gear most of the time? Are you crawling in high gear instead of low gear, or running heavy wheels? All of these things can raise motor temps quite a bit.
