| Nedmo's Twin Hammers Brocky build
Hi all, Really digging the aesthetics of Vaugn Gitten Jnr's 4500 class Ford Bronco "Brocky" So I am going to attempt to build a 1/10 scale version based off a Twin Hammers Body will be the HPI 1973 Bronco. All panels separated and hung with the front and rear dovetailed. A RPM 6 led light bar( i know the "Brocky" has 7 ) and these tube fenders should round out the shell nicely! The truck itself will get all new electronics Sensored brushless Flysky 3gtb WP servos Wheelbase will need to be lengthened a touch and will customize some Yeti ally trailing arms. Need to find a nice scale AT tyres as well. Really want the new Voodoo KLR A/T! Cant wait to get started!!!! Last edited by nedmo; 08-18-2017 at 05:45 PM. |

This will be cool! I can't wait to see the finished product. I've wanted one of those WL Toys TH clones for a while. How are they in stock form? |

The electronics and wheels/tyres are where the lower quality gear is used. But plastic strength is identical and all TH upgrades fit perfectly.

Small update. I have managed to measure out the 1:1 brocky proportions using images, tire size and Adobe Ilustrator. I would say its pretty close to actual measurements. As you can see, the twin hammers is smaller in nearly every dimension than the 1:1. Im not sure if I should proceed or try and go with a larger platform, like a Yeti. I think I will just end up scaling everything down a touch and making a 1/11 scale version. But the issue then is that the only 73 Bronco bodies are all 305mm wheelbases. Tire size also comes into this as well cause a 4500 Ultra4 buggy can only have a tyre size of 37", and most 1.9 tyres are 4" which are already over scale. I was thinking of running this wheel and tyre combo. Boomracing KRAIT Golem beadlocks with custom painted neon green beadlock rings PBX Hardcore A/T in Alien Compound. While I patiently for my TH to arrive, I have been doing what I do best. Plan and Research and buy parts! So, I have on the way: B5M rear arms Traxxas slash 4x4 ultimate rear drive shafts - same as XO-1 but with 5mm stub shafts. Came in a pair for $50 Losi Rock Rey outdrive kits x2 and the HD front differential kit. This will allow me to perform the long travel front end, bullet proof sweet looking CV's and increase my track width which is required to match the scale looks. I then ordered Kings shocks. 100mm for the front and 110mm for the rear. I have also been designing a 3d printed front grill and the body decals. Have a guy on ebay who is going to print them on his Diecut machine! Last edited by nedmo; 08-11-2017 at 11:54 PM. |

Mamba X installed Motor rewired. Battery tray fabbed up- Only temp until my turnigy super shorty packs arrive then they will be going down in the tub behind servo. CC BEC 2.0 installed. Direct power to servo with a custom little y harness. Currently it's locked in assume, top gear. Have ordered all the bits to convert back to two speed. Need to get it out for its first drive to see if this 10.5t trackstar motor is going to be torquey enough. Need to wait for my castle link to get here so that I can bump the BEC voltage up. Don't understand why they ship them at 5.75v. that's way too much for a 4.8v servo and under powering a 6v Also need to turn down the punch! If you give it to it now it will standing backflip on carpet! Waiting a little letter from Codyboy who graciously sent me some of the inserts needed from McMaster Carr as they don't ship to Australia! Then I can begin the wide arm conversion. Good thing too cause I punched the truck a-arm first into a wall corner and chunked the arm! Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk |

Started on the B5M mod today. First was to get the Slash ultimate driveshafts in the knuckle. I thought for sure that the Slash out drive would work with a new 5*12*4 bearing but nope, the CV joint was slightly too big to fit in space provided by the carrier. So I had to attach TH outdrive to the Traxxas shaft. The Traxxas uses a slightly larger pin than the TH, im not sure if I should run the thinner TH pin or drill out the outdrive to accept the larger Traxxas pin. Means I have lost 1/3 of the sexy rubber boots As far as I got in the house today. Will need to head to the shed to modify the arms to suit the TH mountings systems. I also discovered the Losi Rock Rey uses a different design outdrive than the Baja Rey, they also come with both outdrives for $8, as opposed to having to buy two of the centre kits at $16 a pop. I have ordered a set to see how they work compared to the centre outdrive set. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk |

I had the same problem with my ssd shafts on my rock rey and I thinned them down in a drill to fit the outputs , I don't know if it helps but the pins used in the rock rey are vaterra pins vtr246001 , these are used on all the outputs , Looking forward to seeing the finished article tho man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Alright so the long travel arm swap is done! Pretty painless overall, few little sticking points. Started off trimming the inner arm pivots down to suit the twin hammers hinge pin length. Pretty simple, just copied the width of the stock arms In regards to the actual hinge pins, I thought for.sure I would need to track down a set of B5m hinge pins as the TH were too loose. But, on my desk was the bits that came with my new servo and serendipitously, it came with 4 little metal grommets, which were the perfect inner/outer diameter to.fit in the arm and then be able to use the TH hinge pin. Success!! Next was to drill out the outer holes to take the McMaster Carr M3 brass insterts. All pretty simple. Then needed to modify the Slash driveshafts and the Baja Rey centre diff output. If your following along, the Rock Rey diff outputs I mentioned did not work. They are 6mm outputs and the Slash is 5mm. Anyway, you need to cut down the length of the Baja Rey outputs cause they are too long to fit in the Slash CV. The slash CV needs to also be trimmed a bit and you can standard vs trimmed. Then, as the Slash outdrives didn't fit in the TH uprights, I had to adapt the TH outdrives to the Slash axle. This entailed drilling out the CV pin holes to 2mm. Friggen snapped my cobalt bit on the 3rd hole and had to MacGyver the last hole. But got there and the standard spring on the TH outdrive holds the pins in nicely. Then the chrome part of the Slash axle was too long and was limiting up travel. So out comes the Dremel again. Made sure to grind it up nicely so it didn't tear the rubber boots. The only major issue I had was that the Slash CV uses a M3 pin screw to hold the driveshaft into the diff out put. The Baja Rey outputs have a 2mm hole and the Traxxas pin shaft ends up being 2.5mm. I tried drilling out the outdrive but my available tools let me down. Solution was to use a M2 screw and a nuts. Luckily it doesn't foul on anything. I will be looking for a smaller pin screw to sort it properly Got everything installed, threaded out the tierod and turnbuckle to suit the new width and it was looking good. Then got the king's shocks bled and installed. Must say, these feel like terrible shocks. The valving and spring rates are so far off anything useful it's embarassing. Ended up using 3000cst diff fluid and adding a small 3rd helper Spring from the Icon shocks which came with the truck. For the Brocky build, I will probably go with RCrun king replicas. Seem like far better shock. New track width is now 225mm Front diff is running with 1 million weight fluid. Was crazy playing with that stuff for the first time. I was waiting for it to harden at any point cause it felt so similar to a 2 part epoxy texture. Whipped a up a little battery mount for the bottom of the tub, ballooned my RX and got the wiring tidied. Man this new Spektrum servo is strong and quick!! Even at just 5.75v! All ready for a weekend camping and bashing. And for something different, I grabbed a set of road wheels and tires off AliExpress. They are tiny compared to the 1.9 . Will be fun for some road runs or skatepark bashing. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk Last edited by nedmo; 08-25-2017 at 06:14 AM. |

Can you make a comparison between the cvd vaterra and the traxxas all "closed" in mm? thank you

I assume you are asking to see if it's possible to put the Slash CVs on stock TH arms? I would say maybe, if you were to also cut down the upper part of the Slash CV. But that's contingent on the splines extending the length internally of the upper shaft. You would also lose the middle rubber boot. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
