Default Open rear diff???

Has anyone tried to run an open rear diff for better turning? Wether it be modding the stock rear or using an axial rear?

In the manual it shows an open diff that says front/rear, but the shaft drive is square; not the cylinder/pin combo that the front utilizes. This rig would be more stable on road with an open rear diff.

I tried it on my Wraith a while back. Didnt like it for crawling at all. And on fast turns it would flip easy.

Yeah, looking at my manual, I don't think it can be done with the stock stuff, I think it would have to be done by using an axial setup in the rear. I don't know how different the gearing would be either.

Someone needs to make new rear shafts with a pin to make it work.

Did you use super thick diff oil? Like 500k?

I'm running an open diff in the back of my honcho and am digging it. But I have some tar like grease in the diff. It is temp sensitive, below ~60 degrees its awesome. Will turn in a 3 foot circle and can still climb. Above 70 degrees the diff acts very open. I want to try some 1000k diff "oil" to see if it will increase the useable temp range.

I wonder how well an axial rear axle would bolt up to a hammer? It might be a can of worms!

Way old revival... Haha but finally dug out the dusty hammers and converted the rear diff to open. Bought a 2.5mm carbide bit and it went through the hardened axle like butter. Had some spares and messed a few up, but got it to work. Totally different machine now, way more stable at speed and LSD effect of 500k oil is nice

LSD!!! lol Iheard someone say mouldable silicone ear plugs work well. I got some but not tried it yet. I have the Racers Edge putty in the front diff and it works good, but is a mess to clean up.

Actually have two hammers, one I put 500k in front and rear.

The other has 500k up front, and 1m in the rear.
This works, and will slip the rear for a few turns, but then the diff kinda binds up then locks?!?
It's weird, but I'm gonna run it like this and hopefully the gears don't xplode.

Really wish they didn't discontinue this, will likely have to retire them both due to replacement parts being unavailable.
But hopefully no time soon!
