I believe the safari comes with a 35t fireball motor? Mmm dunno.. I run a 45t HH with a 15t pinion, team drivers or most of, run a 55t with a 19t pinion.. a 27t will be fast, I just don't know how much torque ur goin to get..

no, it'll work with your esc. esc's have a turn limit for lower turn motors. you can always run higher turn motors and be safe.
the exception is with brushless, theres sensored and sensorless. sensorless only esc's wont run a sensored motor, sensored esc's wont run sensorless motors.some can run both though

55 turn should work great for a nice steady torquey crawl , now if you want to go a little faster you can run a 45 turn or even a 35 turn

I'm looking at getting a creeper kit for my first crawler.
I would just like to know if this would be a good motor

It's good in that it fits and will last a very long time, as long as you only feed it 2s lipo and keep it out of the mud. It's low overall power will keep the stress down in the drivetrain.

It's not so good in that it will be slow, not have a much low end torque, and you can't service it.

Pretty sure that motor is a plain Mabuchi 540, like what Tamiya puts in many of their kits. If it is, you'll want low gearing to help with torque, like a 12 or 13 tooth pinion.

I believe that horsepower is the absolute last thing a crawler needs, so if you don't mind going slow then it'll probably serve you well. It's certainly cheap enough to be worth trying.

I would go with something you won't have to replace right away cause it doesn't work for what you want.. for stock 15t pinion a 45t integy is great or even a 35t.. for a 55t, go with a 19t pinion.. they have been ran by most of us an hold up great! My .02 worth..

Sorry for my noob question.
I've just assembled venom comp creeper and rebuilt it with a scale body and smaller, 1,9 wheels.
I also have the stock 540 55t motor and stock 60/240A ESC.
With 15t pinion it is quite sluggish, so the question is, does 550 size motor fit the venom creeper, and if it fits, what motor can I use with the stock ESC?
I'm not planning to do the rock crawling, but more like trailing.

Thanks!

45 turn with either the stock pinion or even a 19 tooth pinion. You'll get bored with the 55t and 15 tooth pinion. Especially if you are used to fast models.

X2 a 55t motor is way too slow for trail.. plus you lost tire rotation goin with 1.9.. smaller tire, less travel per rotation.. a 35t with the stock pinion should give you really good results for trail an the occasional rock pile

Thanks for the advice!
What about the 550 size motor - will it fit?
And one more idea - if the motor has more turns, then it has more torque but is slower. Is there a difference if I take larger pinion (say 26T) and stay with this 55t motor, or leave the stock pinion and take 35t motor?

This video right here is my creeper with a novak 55T motor and a 27 tooth pinion. Also using a 7.2V old nicad battery. I would say 20 tooth max as the stock opening is barely big enough for the pinion to fit through into the gearbox without mods.

Thanks!
With brushless motor it's a beast!
Isn't it a bit hard to drive slow with sensorless motor?

the video in the link is the 55 turn. I am guessing you already saw my brushless video. Yes crawling with that requires throttle control. You cant just mash it and crawl. Also the 3S is just too much for crawling.
