Robb Richmond sounds great to me and you'r right it's the most central location. I'm just getting back into RC about tens years ago I raced a stadium truck. My F350 high-lift just came to day as soon as my bearings get I'll start building it. For now I'm going to keep it scale. Keep everyone posted and don't get discouraged that everyone wants to have the comp somewhere else. If people have other locations pehaps they can pick a date the following month and host a comp then. SPLNE1 PM me since we live in the same city we can go bashing sometime. Later |

yes, I definitely would want a comp in richmond. from what I heard at the hobbytown comp, Pony Pasture is a very popular spot, but from what I heard from bigblazerboy Cheswick Park also has some nice spots, although cheswick appears to be better for scalers than comp rigs. alternately, there are a few spots at Deep Run that might give a comp rig reason to breathe heavy, mostly all to the left of the main entrance road, but deep run seems a lot more oriented to bikes than RC and they might not be too accepting of RC rigs. if I get out to Bell Isle any time soon I'll see if any of the hiking trails might be good for a comp

maybe if it ain't raining this weekend I'll go up there and run down a pack with my axial. instead of tennis ball halves for gate markers, what about those little flag things you can stick in the ground? they sell them for pretty cheap at like lowes or home depot and you can get them in a few different colors. just bend the wire about 6" from the bottom, then bend it at a 90 degree angle 3" from the bottom, then just tape it to whatever, and wallah, instant gate marker that won't move much if a rig runs into it, and if the course is on actual dirt you can get away without bending the wire at all. and you could color code them, like orange flags are for the comp rigs, blue for 2.2 scale, red for 1.9 scale. hey, it could work. EDIT: in that last pic that bigblazerboy posted, that slope in the background could be interesting for trying out like a hillclimb car (think those norwegian 1000BHP, 1000 pound rigs that shoot up near vertical slopes and can literally drive on water). |

the property markers (flags) is a good thought but tennis balls (or even small cones) are used since it's easier for drives to see, easier for judges to see when they move, and can be placed on rocks where those flags could not.

The flags are too much trouble. Different color tennis ball halves is the way to go. I don't want to have to worry about taping anything to a rock.

Is the date for the comp set in stone? April 24 is a Thursday, and since it's about a 3 hour drive from here (Roanoke) to Richmond, I wouldn't be able to make it unless it's on a weekend. I would think that many others would be in the same boat as me.

Doh! Guess it pays to look at the dates before responding, huh? Well, let's stop speculating and schedule something! If the organizers need any help, let me know. Promoting, organizing, prize sponsors, etc... | |
