It's never too late. Thanks Pat. "thumbsup"

Congrats Grizz that sounds just like my little bro 5 years ago. He's been riding trials since the was 5 and can pretty much out ride me now.

Fortunately I can still kick his ass. :ror:

From an ex atv racer, who never had support from my family. YOU ROCK!!! Just remember (you need) to stay calm, before the chaos in turn 1. I wish your son and your nerves the best of luck!!!

When i was 5 years old ( a long time ago) on christmas my dad played a semi mean joke on me. when we woke up christmas day we ran out to see the presents. my dad was reading the names of the presents and handing them out, and i soon began to ask if there were any for me, and by the time we got to the bottom of the pile i had got no presents. he said maybee i was a bad boy ( he was prolly right) but i said no, i was a good boy. well, anyway he let me sweat it out, and in a few minutes he took me out to the garage to see if we could find any presents. i couldnt find any, anyways he lifted up a blanket and there was one, a brand new honda qa 50 mini bike. this was before the mr 50 so anyways that started of my riding career, ive been riding now for over 35 years and have always had motorcycles since then. i rode this living pisss out of this little thing, i mean, through rivers, super mini jumping canyons ( 5 or 6 feet high air time jumps.) donuts, mud bogs, gear slamming wheelies, pulled over 3 or 4 times by the police, everything a kid could do i did with that lil thing, it lasted about 10 years of hard abuse, prolly 5 or 6 sets of tires. then it got retired with my honda spree, then night hawk 450, yz 125, yz 250, then 2 gsxr's, cr500, xl600, dr 650, and and and..... anyways, i was guuna buy one for my boy when i had one, but i have 2 girls, so i play barbie instead... good times, have fun i really miss those days.

Waaaay cool Griz, That's about the age I started and boy was it fun. I love the "I don't want to go back to school, I just want to stay at John's and ride my motorcycle everyday" PRICELESS. That was me until I got my Licence and took care of that problem real fast :ror:.

This brings back good memories Chris, thanks for sharing.

Man he's going to have so much fun, and you as well watching him race.

This will be the "cool" time ya'll spend together. Enjoy

Its always fun to watch the parents standing on the side of the track as there little one is racing cheering and then theres the parent angry because little one let another rider drive by.Good luck to your kid griz have a great time

Since it's a Hare Scrample they don't start on the gates. I plan to start him in the back and tell him to let everyone go ahead. We're not in it to win it, were in it to have fun and just finish the 30 min race so he can earn his first trophy. I'll try to stay calm though. "thumbsup"
Good luck Griz your a great dad ;)
Thanks Scott, I appreciate it bud. 8)

Thanks Tom. Sweet bike too. "thumbsup" I still have Tyler's first motorcycle, a 1975 Honda Elsinore MR50. She ran into the truck on her first ride so I won't ever get rid of that thing. I wish I could have had a bike that young, lucky dog.
Good thing he is riding a good bike!"thumbsup"
 It's turning out to be perfect for him. "thumbsup"

Glad you enjoyed it Jay. I didn't get my first bike till I was 13 but after that I eat, slept, and breathed riding also. 8)

Without a doubt Benz, I love watching him learn and improve. Makes me smile all day. "thumbsup"

Yeah, I'm going to try not to be one of "those parents", riding for me is purely for fun, even when I was racing the Hare Scrambles. I'm gonna try and just let him do his thing, however he wants.

Thanks for the good words guys. We went to the track today after work. I started working 9 hour days so I can take a half day off on Friday so we hit the dirt right after school.
He spend an hour or so just riding around the parking area first, he has started playing with the throttle a little, we worked on standing up over the bumps, and he even saved a spill by using the throttle. :D

Then we went to practice on the track. He was a bit intimidated by the whoops and the tabletop jump but he motored right over them. On the first lap he was pretty timid on the downhills, he kept his feet out but used his front brake like a champ to complete a lap without any help from me.

On the second lap he started riding the whole track with his feet on the pegs and was picking up speed. Watching him work that front brake just like his is supposed to was awesome. My dad tried to make me afraid of the front brake but I wanted to teach him how to use it properly right from the get go. The front brake is the most important so you gotta be comfortable with it.

By the 10th lap he was scooting right along, except when the faster kid came near, then he'd stop and let him go by. He even started putting his inside foot out on the corners.
Today was a great day, Cody made major improvements and completed 10 laps without crashing once.
I think he's gonna be in good shape for his first race. "thumbsup" Man I love this shit....... "thumbsup""thumbsup"

ACE!!! Been a LONG time buddy!! And Grizz I think RCC needs to have a Father of the year award every year... You receiving the first one and then calling it the "The Grizz" award.:D I tried to get Sky into riding but I think I pushed a little too hard and she said she wasn't interested... Shortly after I sold her fiddy we went to watch arenacross and the pee-wee's came out to race, her eye's were as big as tennis balls! She stands up to watch the whole race and she then tells me I want my bike back!! I was crushed, when we all three had bikes I could have afforded to get her into racing but now it just isn't possible. So for now I will have to live vicariously though your kids!! Drag racer and MX'er all in the same house.8)8) Your kids are lucky to have such a cool Dad and it makes me proud to call you a friend!

Good job Buddy!!!!"thumbsup""thumbsup"

HEres a picture of me on my rm85. It was taken on a cell phone so its kinda crappy. Its a full throttle 4th gear jump though.

Grizz, you need to give me a heads up... I'd love to come out and watch Cody tear it up!
Thanks Ace. Hopefully you can make the next one man. 8)

Thanks for the kind words Robb. I'm just doing the best I can. Not like you ain't a world class dad either, you put your family first as well buddy. "thumbsup"8)
Thought you would get a kick out of these
That's bad ass Scott!!! I love the pics, thanks for posting those up man. "thumbsup"

Nice pic Tyler. I have a ton of great memories from riding my YZ80. "thumbsup"
Way cool guys this will be a great life time memory for you both to have. Good luck to Cody and yourself on the 18th Griz. "thumbsup"
Thanks Norm, it's already been so great to spend so much time with Cody doing what we both love. "thumbsup"

So before the race started Cody asked me when I was going to start riding. I told him if he rode the whole race and didn't quit I'd start riding again. So once the race was over he pulled off his helmet and the first thing he said was "So, are you going to start riding now?" Looks like I need to dust off the bike.

The race went great! Cody fell one time but Tyler helped him up again and that was the only incident. He didn't take a break or anything. He rode hard, held his line when others were passing him, and finished the 30 minute race. The fast kids prolly ran twice as many laps as him but that's ok, he had a blast and can't wait till the next race. He finally earned his first trophy, and that smile is what it's all about. "thumbsup"
I could talk about it all day, but here are a few of the 200 pics I took. 8)
