After searching for a while I was finally able to locate a builder that understood the traditional hot rod style that I wanted without breaking the bank. The photos aren't the best, but you get the idea. I meant to post this from the beginning but forgot. The builder I found was James Gardiner in Berthoud, CO. His shop is called Broken Light Customs.

So I chopped up a photo I had in photoshop to get it as close visually as I could.

Yeah sure SBCs are fine but we're sticking to Traditional with this Flathead taken out of a '55 pickup.

Choppy choppy. Some rust but no big deal

I was torn as to what I should do for the roof. I opted for a metal top and the builder exceeded my expectations with this one

Radiator and front suspension mounts look killer. Headlight mounts to the top of the shock mount.

Cowl patched at the bottom. The inset channel for the pitman arm is so awesome! Mooneyes remote oil filter too.

Shifter finished, didn't want to go overboard on the wild-factor here. Think it's just understated enough.

Saw another car with a bench like this so I went with it. Always dug the bomber seats but so many people have those.

That brings us up to date. I'll make sure to post any new photos I receive. Should be done in a few weeks! Can't wait!

nice looking project, im helping my buddy build a late 20s early 30s ford model A sedan. doing a 455 Buick in it. Doing all work ourselves. I also building a 32 pontiac 5 window that is going to be just different like me. Running a pontiac ohc motor with a procharger and efi, over drive, and running on 86 corvette suspension and one off frame

That is so sick! And the flathead is a must! I don't think I would even paint it, just pin stripe it a bit! Man that is nasty!

OH my im in heaven you want to send it to me.... your build is looking awesome...when i get my own shop this is what i will be building...you keeping this motor stock or you gonna do a couple things to it

It's getting paint only in hopes people will refer to it as a "rat rod" less often. I have done much thinking about just clear coating it the way it is. The blue door looks so cool.

Looks killer, +2 on the love of the flathead.

Wasn't '53 the last year for the flathead?

I'd do black, flat or semi-gloss clear with some green pearl in it. "thumbsup"

Definately a bad ass car you've got there. Hope you're young enough to drive it. I've seen a few older guys build rods like that only to find that they can't get in or out...lol

Looks good man ! let me know when you come out. Swing by the shop ggot a flatty we are working on in a 50 merc we chopped.

Cool so far. But, why does everyone stop when the car they are building is 75% there. Smooth it up and put some paint on it. I am not saying a 20 color job with flames, skulls and pinstripes. Just get it in paint. The rusty POS look is just not all that anymore.
