Weather update...
A spring storm is rolling through this week, rain Thursday, highs 62, windy. We'll keep an eye on it. Warming up by Saturday, sunny. By Sunday and Monday on it's back to it's normal 80's and sunshine. Go figure eh?
If it's actually blowing and raining we'll be coming up Friday morning instead. Will be watching closely.
If you're tenting it be sure to bring your ground-hawg tent stakes. ;-)
I see southern Oregon is solid rain showers all week, every day. Wow! Didn't check nor-Cal.
Weather is not going to be as warm as last year. Cool and breezy - we have a cooler spring this year. In fact, it's been raining up there which is pretty unusual.
Current forecast is mid-70's day and 50 night, winds 10-15. We always pray for low wind - it can really blow up there...it's the desert. ;-)
The sun is so high already any shade doesn't help much, great for sitting under, but we'll have a couple of ez ups so no problems.
I just can't stand generators running all night. Hopefully they have a curfew.
We'll have our own firepit as well.
Drive carefully Ernie - see you guys there.
I just got an update from a trail maintenance group today that does work up in the south Sierras - usually the area opens by memorial weekend, but they said there's still three feet of snow up there. On particularly snowy winters the high-country stays snowed in well into June, even July.
I have a hunch this is why Axialfest got pushed back a month. Surely they're expecting a very late snow-melt.
I was wondering about weather. Thanks for posting, Chris.
Ernie and Marcia - yes please take your time! Drive safe, and see you there.
Thats if I make it.
Mothers day + proline prep makes not a good combination.
:x
Hopefully I can pull a hail Mary or something but as of right now its not looking good for team shinchu.
My truck still needs a solid 2 days of work and going in the garage is a bad idea right now.
Cross your fingers for me gents.

Yes, I've been keeping an eye on the weather too and it's cool and rainier than last year. I spent several trips in the desert with full on sand storms that removed paint from vehicles and ruined headlights and windshields. Hoping for the best."thumbsup"
Not much shade anywhere there.
Agreed, hopefully they have a generator curfew, running them all night is hella noisy.

I would not drive any mountain passes Thursday - snow is forecast. Hunker down and roll in on Friday.
The 395 corridor through Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes could well be white. Ernie should be coming down I5 and over the 58.

Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll take I5 instead of 395.
Here's a map of the area with the winter weather warning

Thanks Paul, Ok Marcia and I made it to Lone Pine about 4:30. A little rain in Reno, some south of Carson City and a little on a couple of the passes. It is 75 here with a little wind and high clouds. 40% chance of rain starting at 6 in the morning. I think the farther south we go in the morning the harsher the weather will be. As of now still planning on arriving at camp tomorrow early afternoon. So many awesome updates!!! "thumbsup" I haven't been on here in a few days. busy busy busy
I hope you can make it shinchu!!!! I had to put the tools down on Mothers day also, that was very difficult to do and lost a lot ground on my build.![]()
Browneye, thank you for the weather... Nate and I are pretty hardcore to the core, like Ernie we love adverse weather conditions... it's like texture in your oatmeal, it makes things fun and interesting... no cream of wheat here. :lmao:
Great map Casey, drive safe. we will see you there with a full trip report. "thumbsup"
Ernie, and Marcia... enjoy and be safe.
So Nate, Paul and Casey, are you still planning on pulling into camp Thursday? Anyone else?
Ernie
