Weather update...
A spring storm is rolling through this week, rain Thursday, highs 62, windy. We'll keep an eye on it. Warming up by Saturday, sunny. By Sunday and Monday on it's back to it's normal 80's and sunshine. Go figure eh?

If it's actually blowing and raining we'll be coming up Friday morning instead. Will be watching closely.

If you're tenting it be sure to bring your ground-hawg tent stakes. ;-)

I see southern Oregon is solid rain showers all week, every day. Wow! Didn't check nor-Cal.

Thanks Chris, We will still be there Thursday afternoon.

Ok Ascender Assemble gang, Marcia and I are leaving today for Apple Valley!!! Even though it is only 900 miles we are going to take time to "smell the Roses" along the way, actually going to make it a two week trip! We are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. All of you please drive careful. The welcome mat will be hung starting Thursday afternoon!!! See you all there!!"thumbsup""thumbsup"

Ernie and Marcia

Drive carefully Ernie - see you guys there.

I just got an update from a trail maintenance group today that does work up in the south Sierras - usually the area opens by memorial weekend, but they said there's still three feet of snow up there. On particularly snowy winters the high-country stays snowed in well into June, even July.

I have a hunch this is why Axialfest got pushed back a month. Surely they're expecting a very late snow-melt.
The good news is that waterfall viewing this year should be spectactular. We did a tour in 2011 and took in a half-dozen waterfalls...here's a highlight. This is out at the end of the road in Kings Canyon:

Weather is not going to be as warm as last year. Cool and breezy - we have a cooler spring this year. In fact, it's been raining up there which is pretty unusual.
Current forecast is mid-70's day and 50 night, winds 10-15. We always pray for low wind - it can really blow up there...it's the desert. ;-)

The sun is so high already any shade doesn't help much, great for sitting under, but we'll have a couple of ez ups so no problems.

I just can't stand generators running all night. Hopefully they have a curfew.

We'll have our own firepit as well.

Yes, I've been keeping an eye on the weather too and it's cool and rainier than last year. I spent several trips in the desert with full on sand storms that removed paint from vehicles and ruined headlights and windshields. Hoping for the best. :)"thumbsup"

Not much shade anywhere there.

Agreed, hopefully they have a generator curfew, running them all night is hella noisy.

I was wondering about weather. Thanks for posting, Chris.

Ernie and Marcia - yes please take your time! Drive safe, and see you there.
Thats if I make it.
Mothers day + proline prep makes not a good combination.
:x
Hopefully I can pull a hail Mary or something but as of right now its not looking good for team shinchu.
My truck still needs a solid 2 days of work and going in the garage is a bad idea right now.
Cross your fingers for me gents.

Its not me you need to convince...

:oops::shock::oops:

Put the young lady on the phone. And Marcia says shame on you. "thumbsup"

Yeah Good luck finding an opening Chris "thumbsup"

Last year I counted on luck and weight to keep my tent from blowing away but I picked up some beefy tent stakes this morning. I hope the wind is calm at night at least, I really wanna get more night runs in.

Drive safe Ernie, I hope to see you Thursday evening :)

Rightfully so, Marcia.
I promise not a thing was touched on the bench Sunday. But I worked equal effort on all projects. But not enough focus on the important one.

Too many irons in the fire, I got burned.

Dang it why cant proline be in JUNE?!

So Nate, which pass are you guys coming over? Do you have your chains loaded? Good luck and be careful! We are leaving Border Town this morning, and headed to Lone Pine for tonight. "thumbsup"
Ernie

I would not drive any mountain passes Thursday - snow is forecast. Hunker down and roll in on Friday.
The 395 corridor through Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes could well be white. Ernie should be coming down I5 and over the 58.

Thanks Chris, we are committed to our route on 395. We should be ok, remember we are from Oregon and drive in it all the time. For sure, it is the crazies we need to watch out for though!!! We'll keep you guys posted later today! "thumbsup"

So many awesome updates!!! "thumbsup" I haven't been on here in a few days. busy busy busy

I hope you can make it shinchu!!!! I had to put the tools down on Mothers day also, that was very difficult to do and lost a lot ground on my build.

Browneye, thank you for the weather... Nate and I are pretty hardcore to the core, like Ernie we love adverse weather conditions... it's like texture in your oatmeal, it makes things fun and interesting... no cream of wheat here. :lmao:

Great map Casey, drive safe. we will see you there with a full trip report. "thumbsup"

Ernie, and Marcia... enjoy and be safe.

Thanks Paul, Ok Marcia and I made it to Lone Pine about 4:30. A little rain in Reno, some south of Carson City and a little on a couple of the passes. It is 75 here with a little wind and high clouds. 40% chance of rain starting at 6 in the morning. I think the farther south we go in the morning the harsher the weather will be. As of now still planning on arriving at camp tomorrow early afternoon.
And I talked with Chris last night and the shinchu team aren't going to be able to make it this year. Darn!!

So Nate, Paul and Casey, are you still planning on pulling into camp Thursday? Anyone else?

Ernie

Thank you Ernie. "thumbsup" great information.

Just got of the phone with Nate, Since we are tent camping, and based on the high winds forecast tomorrow of 29'ish mph, we decided to leave early Friday morning instead and save the discomfort of dust and wind. I hope we made the right decision. WE should see you all Friday afternoon early evening. "thumbsup"

Yep, still saving for my RV so this is not a factor anymore.
