Burned something on the curcuit board! How to fix?

I guess I shorted something in my electronics and when I turned the wheels something got burned. I guess its a part that is responsible for steering because wheels wont turn and it stayed pointing right.( it says Q18 right next to that part).
My question is do I have to buy a new board or just this one small part and change it by myself?

Here's what I would do since you really don't have anything to lose at this point. Take off the burned piece, clean the board right there and make sure that the circuit board itself isn't damaged. Look closely for any more damage anywhere else on the board, then run to radio shack with the bad piece and find an identicle (sp?) piece to the burned one. Put it back on with the proper solder for a circuit board, there are different solders, it's been 20 years since I've worked with any so I don't remember the differences any more.
Put it alll back together and try it.
Then let us all know the results.

if i hadn attempted something simmaler to this myself once i would tell you that you're screwed.


they make a "solder sucker" tool for removing solder from circuit boards.

this is an essential in my opinion. you press the spring loaded button on the side and heat up the solder on the back of the circuit board (the point that you want to remove)

once the solder is hot, hit the release button and it will suck the solder up into the "solder sucker"

this makes it easy to take of resistors and such that have multiple solder points.

and to re apply the replacement just put it in the same holes, heat up the wire and board at the little "circle of solder" then just dab a tiny bit of solder and it will look just like stock.

but you have to wait untill the board and the wire are hot. dont touch the solder to the iron, as the board and wire will melt it and adhear together.

the difference in solderin is gonna be how much silver is in it, the more there is, the harder it is

I replaced that part and it doesnt work. :? So now i have to buy the whole board...but where? Any ideas?
