chevy prerunner/trophy truck build

Thank you for all the advice. I would like it if you haven't to go to YouTube and find cyconxc and look at his trophy truck you can look at his rigs and you will see kinda where I'm going.
.
I realize that I need better parts. That's why I decided to buy a traxxas slash front end and shock tower, and rear links.

I'm quite familiar with that build, so I know what you are going for. From looking at your photos, I don't think your problem is the quality of your parts, but the quality of your work.

I sure hope you don't just trace those cardboard templates and start drilling holes and cutting up perfectly good sheet metal. I bet there's not a single straight line or exact angle in those "templates." I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you're just a little bit sloppy at this stage, your end product is going to be really shite.

Maybe we're all just a bit too uptight about our toy trucks, but we are here to help. At the end of the day though, so long as you're happy with your results, then that's what really matters.

We'll heck if you think the only thing wrong with this is the "template" then don't worry. No that was just to screw around figure out if I needed to do anything special for cutting anything that would rub that sort just to get an early idea. No I just finished drawling the sizes on the metal.

This is the tool I use for the straight lines 90 degree angles and 45 degree angles. Everything is measured just about perfect a 3/16ths here and there so when I cut and grind I have a little room for error. When I Finnish cutting I will make it exactly the measurement I calculated.
.
Here are some pictures of the metal.

I am making sure to measure so don't think it's gonna be sloppy and not straight it's gonna be perfect and smooth. It will look nice when I Finnish. Swear you just have to be patient and see how it looks at the end. I swear you it will get better and more satisfying to you.

I got all the metal cut.

Also got some paint that I'm gonna use on the cage and the chassis.
.
Gonna do a bed liner sort of spray so it won't scratch up.

Work is gonna be busy this weekend so may not get a lot of progress like I hopes. But I'll have it done definitely by next weekend.

Got the bottom plate holes drilled except for the servo and steering link pivot. I counter sank the holes so the bolt heads don't stick out on the bottom so when I hit the chassis it won't get caught.

If I get off early I'll keep drilling holes but I have a few more to do I still have to do the back rails to mount onto the bottom, and I have bolts that go from one side to the other that I have to put 4 of installed. And drilling threw 16 gage steel isn't a quick process. I'm gonna make the roll cage pretty simple I still want to be able to access the motor and the frame so I'm gonna leave most of the bottom open. Then I get to paint that's gonna be fun I can't wait for that! And i will also have to figure out how to mount the body in the front and tire rack.

Allright we'll here is how it's gonna be.

Everything was going great got the metle just about done and everything got the front shocks in the mail and then I built them. Then I went to put them on and bamm....... Doesn't fit.

When the arm is at full droop the shock won't go any further tword the shock tower because it is hitting here.

If I where to make an extension to the shock tower I won't have enough travel. Like an inch and a corter I can cut up the arm but I think I will have to cut way to much. The only other thing I can think of is to do something like this.

Sorry for the bad finger drawling. But if I put a price of metal to rase up the bottom mount I think it might change the angle enough to make it have clearance and maybe more travel.
.
Can any one help me? Any suggestions on how to fix this? I'm sure people have had this problem.
.
Any one wanna buy a pre build pair of Gmade piggy back shocks 93mm 26mm travel. I'll throw in a full bottle of stock oil wrench and all the spare parts. Same price as original. Buyer pays shipping.

We'll here she is got everything but the shocks done. And body mounts. Lookin pretty good. Wish these shocks came in a longer versions I am only getting 2-1/2 inches of travel out of the rear. So yeah but oh we'll. maybe some day I'll mess with it right now i just wanna get her working.

Drove it for the first time she drove we'll although I think something in the transmission is stripping but yeah. I'm gonna need stiffer springs in the rear but she is working very we'll. I'm pleased it has pretty decent speed. Have to fix the steering a little I'll do that tomorrow.

We'll I was able to take her out today. Went out and drove with my friend and his ofna nitro buggy. Anyways. This thing handles outstandingly. The speed it great. I can have it about half to two thirds throttle and the gas it all the way and it will spin out. Gonna add another angle to help stabilize the rear. And I need new springs these are too soft right hight is to low and I was dragging a lot on the ground. Motor only got to 135 degrees though so my gearing is good I'm just gonna leave it. She held up well though nothing broke. Very happy just gonna figure out how to mount the new body.

Got her a little dusty. I'll make some videos when I get it finished with my gopro and I'll have my friends ofna most likely. But I wanna finish it first.

Small update got the new springs. Really the last thing I needed to do. Besides mounting the body. Here are the spring. They are slack shock spring.

Red up front.

Love this orange. Hah

The wheel base is a little long. So I am gonna probably start off with mounting it like this

Just the cab and then extend the bed. This is cyconxc's brothers trophy truck.

This is kinda what it will be like for a while pretty stinking cool.
