Do you believe in God,Heaven or Hell?

OK I'll jump into this fray. It's that time of year.
The modern church picked a day for the birth of Christ. 12/25 every year.
But the death of Christ is a crap shoot. Dependent upon 3 things.
The first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
Sound a bit Pagan? It is! Meant to compete and draw those nonbelievers in. After all it is about the money.
You do give your 10% to get to the hereafter right?

Sorry it has taken so long ,,But finally found it ...Matt 25:41 ,,,

I meant about nonbelievers being the enemy of Jesus, not why Hell was created. Thanks for the reply though. "thumbsup"

IIRC, Jesus wasn't here for those that already had it right...

Yes, yes and yes."thumbsup"

Yes, I believe. We can live our Heaven or Hell right here on Earth and it does not end at death.

believe what you want to believe and im totally fine with it as long as it isnt forced on me. i dont need a god to tell me why i shouldnt be a dick

Agreed, don't force your religion on anybody. Sometimes people need reminded not to be a dick. "thumbsup"

Wait until Happy Hour hits. That's when these threads really come to lilfe "thumbsup"

:lmao:

Pretty much my view. Believing in a higher power or that there is more out there than what we currently know of is one thing. Believing your chosen ghost story hook line and sinker is another altogether.

Not everyone needs an instructional book on how to live life, some people still have some semblance of common sense.

Agreed and an intelligent thinking person should question things...too many peeps just want to lead us around and do their bidding...that is not what God is about. God, Great Creator, Buddha, etc. is about helping us to live good lives, taking responsibility for our own actions, and doing good. "thumbsup" Those who don't suffer...some sooner than others.

Karma and most religions dont mesh well. Most religions have an afterlife part to their story, in which justice is issued by a god. Not quite as fun as having someone bit in the butt here on earth is it?

Justice isnt left to us or some 'fate' in most religions, its a gods to deal out.

Out of all of the mythological ideas out there I can honestly say karma is one Id like to think exists.

Karma and Buddhism fit together perfectly, works for many other religions too...you get paid back here and in the afterlife...sometimes it takes longer for payback good or bad.

Well the bible may be the word of god, but it's interpreted by man, and has been rewritten how many times? Trying to explain evolution to the 12 deciples would be like showing a lightbulb to a caveman and expecting them to understand. If you look at it from a different perspective the world could have been created in 7 days, on a different time scale, if god is eternal, 7 days to him could be billions of years. Time as we know it is a man made scale, we have no idea how time works in the universe, I mean we didn't even know about dark matter/energy until recently, the idea is that we are constantly evolving and learning and new discoveries happen every day, it's possible god intends for us to discover these things when our brains and minds have the capacity to somewhat understand them, or atleast form a hypothesis about them instead of calling it magic.

It's funny, because I had come up with this thought years ago as a child and then I heard it years later when discussing with others. Who says our day is the same length as God's? I question almost everything (maybe why I got in trouble as a youth? :) ) I also believe in most scientific findings, but unless they are proven, they should all be called theories and as we learn more about everything around us, we often have to update our latest scientific findings or theories.

Einstein believed in God, Stephen Hawking does not, they are both very interesting genius and have good theories...some proven, some as yet unproven and not as of now dis-proved. I love watching all the shows about this stuff...very fascinating! Also enjoy reading about it...I have lots of curiosity. 8)

Then there's evolution, I used to believe it back in school, but now not sure (I am not against the theory, just less sure of it), we keep discovering many new hominids, yet none have been the missing link. Our DNA is so close to many other creatures that are very different from humans...maybe there is no missing link? Maybe we are of mixed "star people" (aliens) DNA and some human (predecessor) like gene splicing? Don't know, but fascinated by all the discoveries and possibilities. There are many peoples on Earth who have stories of being visited by people from the stars in the past...many of the ancient gods and stories overlap from one civilization to another distant civilization. Why these similarities if there is not some truth to the stories?

I've got a handful of friends that have totally sworn off main stream media (a good thing) but are sadly now relying on Facebook and CT blogs for their info (they're better off with the MSM). Listen to them long enough and you'd be convinced that Obama is just a few days and one Executive Order away from declaring Marshal Law, the Chinese are preparing to invade, and the gubberment can detect all of the new $100 bills you have in your house from 30,000 feet via a x-ray equipped spyplane.

So yes, info can be definitely be sketchy, but just a wee bit of info and some rational thinking will make it easy to brush away.

What is "CT blog"? Searched and didn't find it.

EDIT: By the way, great discussion!

@Greedy Genius, thanks! 8)

Duuuuuude, thanks got it now lol. "thumbsup"

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle.
But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth.
Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle.”
― Thích Nhất Hạnh

YES! So many people don't even see or understand this. "thumbsup"

God?

Heaven?

Hell?

What do these words mean to you?

It is difficult and sometimes frustrating trying to have a coherant discussion when everyone has their own (different) definitions of the words used in the discussion. Like the old saying, "A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client". This is because commonly known and accepted meanings of words/terms have completely DIFFERENT meanings in a Court of Law! Ever read any of Black's Law Dictionary?

Everybody needs to be on the same page to make any real progress.

Did anyone else in here go see God is not dead ? Seemed to make a real good point about the Hawking theory . Seemed to simplify the whole Christian debate . That was something I have rarely been subject to.

My folks saw it but theyre holy rollers so of course they thought it was great.

I will probably check it out if it ever shows up on netflix.

Still, from the trailer I watched, the reviews Ive seen and the fact that my folks loved it, it seems super pro christian bias.

There is no room for intelligent thinking, this here is a religious discussion!

All that's needed is to read a book written thousands of years ago that's been translated through several languages before landing in modern translations. Then just believe the text hook, line and sinker, oh and don't forget to tithe 10% of your gross earnings... Then everything will be rainbows and sunshine till zombie heyzeus returns. "thumbsup"

Actually, when jesus returns, it'll be more like a Lich and not a Zombie. Lich's are undead and similar, but are magical and still intelligent, and achieved their immortality through spells/rituals. The body is still zombie like however, so it'll still terrify people.
