Droop Vs. others

jwcustomwurks chassis weighs 4oz... I just weighed my VW Bug Body that has 4in tall sides and 3 different coats of paint. only weighs 3.3oz... Thats 7.3oz total...I'm guessing about the time you get everything set up it evens out. I use the Bug body since thats the body of choice for comps.

I'm not trying to dis you chassis at all. I like your chassis more then any other Production Tuber out right now....:) I still plan on getting one.....

You have to think also that thats the same goes for a Super also....7.3oz for a 2.2 and Super. The Tuber for a Super class as to be bigger.

Those are the first numbers I have gotten othern than an SW2. It comes under the sw2 with a rustler body on.

That's closer to the weight than I thought it would be on that chassis.
 
On my gopher, the top of the shocks are 5 inches off the ground at ride height, most of the weight is below this point, as the cockpit area does not weigh much at all.
 
I would say the COG of a droop ride is lower than a conventional sprung rig. The belly can be lower, yet the vehicle can still get through the same breakover rocks that were done with a normally sprung rig.
 
See here is where I just get lost again. You say Pro's.. And list Lower COG. Well you can set up any 4 link Sprung set up to set just has low. You can have the links just as flat. By one either running shorter shocks or changing the angle of them and so on. On the Dropping the axle part. Just sounds goofy to me still. I can see Droop helping on Sidehills. Steep inclines I don't see it being any better then other setups. Speical a Stick set up. Just not possible b/c of the break over point. We need to post some videos showing how this works and why. And what makes it so much better then a Correctly Set up Sprung rig.


Ok so say you set the sprung crawler up to be as low as the innerspring crawler you lose a large amount of uptravel which seems to me would negate the effects of lowering the truck. It seems that the break over angle of a droop truck would become better when hung up where as a sprung crawler has a set break over angle with none of the helpful effects of a lower cog. A 50/50 set up would be a jack of all trades but a master of nothing which in this case would be a good thing because you come out with a truck that though it is not perfect at any one task it does exceedingly well at everything.

so how is the semi- droop done?
I don't kwno if this thread is still active but worth a shot.

Wow. I'm new to the droop set-up. I have gotten a lot of good info out of this thread (once I got through some of the confusion) as far as setting up my rig and different things to try out.

you can make a semi droop setup by placing springs above and below the valve inside the shock body to give you around 50% ride hight...depending on preference....the other way is to use an internal spring under the valve and a normal external spring together....in order to get the 50% ride hight , and stiil allow the axels to droop down to clear breakover points..........hope that helps..."thumbsup"
 
Yes indeed - very informative, reasoned and mature. It's so nice to read a thread like this and not feel 'too old' at 36.

I just dropped my scaler from damn near 100% sprung to about 40% sprung in the back and about 50/50 in the front. It made a WORLD of difference since it is soo heavy.
 
Very nice thread, glad it returned from the dead. Ive never personally ran a droop set up but after reading this, i might just give it a go. I know of only 1 guy in my club that uses droop, and he consistantly does very well, matter of fact i think hes in the lead right now.

Bumping this again.

I am working on a low CG SCX24 hopefully with lots of droop.
Found this thread useful. Had no idea negative sprung shocks were a thing, not that I could do that very easily with the Carisma GT24 aluminum shocks I am using. Looking for lighter springs.
