ECX Barrage upgrades

Are you running 2S lipo with the sumo trans? I like the low speed with my Sumo, but the V2 trans works very well too

2s on nearly everything I have nowadays. I’ve got a 3s pack I use in my ExoTerra when it’s operational and weather permitting. I’m thing of using the Barrage tranny in the Fungi Specter chassis I just ordered with the axles from the HBX/Sumo. Make it a bouncer of sorts.

The fun and games are over already!! Towards the tail end of my second charge (with the RGT 1s 550mah so... about 4th hour) I managed to snap the drivetrain. I don’t really blame this on the truck, as you can tell from the scratches, I’d essentially been making a conscious effort to push the tiny truck as hard as I could.

Unfortunately the draft shafts are all out of stock... everywhere... until at least late July! Total bummer.

As a side note I did pick up a 1/24 new bright truck to try on as a body. The fit isn’t great and it requires a fair bit of modification to fit to the truck. I probably won’t bother finishing that project until some driveshafts make it to the shelves.

Looks like the RC4WD D-shafts are held with a simple 1.3mm OD pin and an O ring.

Pull one of you broken ends off and measure to see if the output/input is 3mm and that the 1.3mm pin will pass and you should be good. I do know that the ECX tranny output is a half moon shape but I’m not sure about the axle’s input.

Axle input was a little surprising / strange to me; it looked a half-moon shape.. taken off both ends. I'll check it out again tonight. @ $22.00 those driveshafts are about a quarter of the cost of the truck, but with a set of Goodyear MT/R's arriving tomorrow, I should probably just bite the bullet and keep dumping money into this tiny thing :D Frankly its embarrassing how enjoyable I found this truck to be to play with ... Thanks for tips Brake Weight / snapon!

glad to see action still in the micro forums. I am on a micro FB (Jims) and a post popped up... so I replied and now looks like when I get back from a work trip, Ill be dusting things off.. I will start with what rig needs least work... then move on and on to get things working again.. hah..

Rc4wd wheels, I want to use the rc4wd wheels, what mods are needed to use them? Shaved hubs?

WPL aluminum driveshafts fit it nicely, I just added those to my 1/24 Fat Girl Sand Racer. I originally intended to use them on the WPL C14 but after getting them I realized they are an exact replica of Sumo crawler driveshafts which means they work with most 1/24 micros. They are also super cheap so win win. I just posted a video of the sand racer today on my youtube account if you want to see them at work ;).

I finally took my Barrage with the HBX/Sumo tranny for a spin. The stock tires are lacking in dry, dusty conditions. It’s also very top heavy compared to my other crawlers but it is more scale than any micro I have. I’ll see about some new shoes and also some BBs in said new shoes. The Sumo tranny seemed slow compared to the stocker but once crawling, it feels like a good speed.

I have a set of rc4wd wheels and cannot for the life of me figure out how to mount them up to the RGT. There is no hex on the RGT at all, just a pin.

Brake Weight, did you make any progress on the new shoes??

I've got the stock ecx hexes and their is not enough thread for the nut to tighten up with.

Well keep us posted!

Closer look at the new RGT, it looks like they've also updated the red truck version to have the exact same specs. (Mine actually shipped w/ same TX and battery as this new model even though at the time neither were advertised). So the land rover body is the same as the late-model red trucks (what I purchased). If that body pops up unpainted for $4.99 like the truck bodies though, that alone will be huge!

Agreed on tires, ok on hardpack but anything loose and they need more tread like the Swamper looking RGT tires. Good feedback on the Redcat Sumo tranny and thanks for the crawling pics! "thumbsup"

Looks like RGT has just released an updated Adventurer!! I'm in the middle of a move but may have to pick one of these up in a week or two! Biggest difference looks to be an included 500mah 1s lipo and a significantly better looking body and rear taillights. Haven't found the ECX version yet (assuming there is one).

Nice find, cool Defender style body, but I prefer the ECX pickup cab with cageback bed. Lipo is nice but they should've gone with 2S. "thumbsup"
