Perfect. I also saw the thread on frame mounted steering. I definitely have the room, so I'll see about tackling it. I could see it turning into a lot of work though Should be worth it.

Got to actually get the damn thing finished before I sell it :lol: No, this one will be one I hold onto for a while. Honestly though, I find I do this with a lot of rc projects. I enjoy the building process a lot, play around with the end product for a year or so, then end up selling it when something else catches my eye. That's why building for others is fun for me too.

Turn up at scale nats next year. I'll probably have run it enough by then that the right offer might be considered ;-)

Sorry there's been no further pics, but there's been no further progress! However, I will be living in hotels a lot this month, so a lot of the scale details will end up getting worked on (hotels don't like me brazing in the rooms for some reason). So more pics will be coming soon!

Well, finally some more progress. Hard to keep up with other builders here, like Semijoe :lol:

As noted above, I'm spending lots of time in hotels this month for work, so since I can't braze, I decided to break out the styrene and inhale some glue fumes! Made up a cover for the motor/tranny, and a box to put all the electronics in:













Also got a new powerplant in the mail along with some other goodies "thumbsup"



I'll likely trim the box a bit more, but there's not a heck of a lot of room in there. It just looks too high up right now. Renslipevol is hooking me up with some scale hinges for it too. After that, time to paint the styrene, then install the grill/lights, steering wheel and driver. The end is finally in sight (I think!).

I've got one other project planned for this rig too. Anyone want to venture a guess ;-)?

I just put up a want ad here and I got a reply within a day. Got a couple of them shipped from the US for about 30 bucks. Probably more than retail, but since the black ones are no longer available, I didn't have a problem paying for it "thumbsup" Hell, the seats were probably one of the cheaper items on this rig :lol:

This is a killer-looking rig! I LOVE these chassis in 1:1... these thing's aren't even a truck anymore... it's a functional work of art!

Well yes, the engine will be built out of styrene and installed. I've got some basic how-to plans, so it's a matter of time.

A few more progress pics:

Got all the styrene work done and painted. The electronics all go in the box in the rear. The motor is underneath the styrene on the passenger side. A 2s lipo slips underneath the styrene the driver's seat is mounted to, with the servo cord running along the frame on the driver's side, so everything is pretty much nice and hidden.

As for the lights, I ended up passing (wimping out) on the frame mounted steering for now. Partly because I had not designed the frame with that in mind (would have brazed on some more nuts/steel plating). Instead, I've cut down the grill and will mount it to the servo. I'll then work on bending the hood to have it conform to the grill. There's enough flex in the hood that it doesn't limit the suspension at all.

Tomorrow I plan to take it out and test it. Hopefully the motor doesn't die on me like the first run! If it works out, I'll have video posted soon "thumbsup"

So got it out for a good test run today. These handwound motors live up to the hype. Lots of torque, but lots of wheelspeed too!

Will be putting together a longer video soon. Other than the broken upper link/servo mount, everything held together just fine. Guess I'll just need to beef up that part with a thicker aluminum or steel servo plate (nothing against TCS's link plate, I did dish out more abuse than would be fair of a delrin part to take !).

Anyways, I'm quite happy with how this rig performed today. It's going to be fun to see what other abuse I can put it through and have it survive!

Be kind, it's my first video I've ever made

Snapped a mounting nut for the lower link off of the frame. You can see it happen about 2:15 into the video. Need to figure out a more secure way to braze something on to protect from happening again.

Beefed up the servo plate/upper link mount with a 3/16" thick 6061 aluminum plate. Got my scale center caps in the mail from MSD. These things are beautiful, and heavy! I'll post up pics once I get the rock rings in the mail and mounted up. Still more to do!

This rig has been lots of fun when I have driven it. I may add some weight to the rear tires. It's a little front heavy as you can see from the video, plus a little top heavy! It actually crawls pretty well, considering it wasn't made for crawling as much as rock racing. The 15" wheelbase probably has something to do with that though !
