fire dept in tenn lets house burn down cuz ownwer forgot to pay $75 annual fee

Pay the fee or dont have fire protection.
Pay for insurance or suffer the consequences when you hit someone.

It sucks that they had to let it burn down, however its simple you pay the fee or dont get fire protection.

Thats just ****ing retarded! We already pay for the fire dept through our taxes. It is just another way to fleece the citizens of more money, and make the poor suffer more.

It's just dispicable and so Un-American. Makes me want to throw up!

What the **** happened to this country???????? And don't say it's Obama's fault, thats just a copout

if they dont pay the $75 fee what makes you think they will pay thousands for the fire department. A lein on a burnt trailer is worth dick. pay the fee or shut the f up. I pay taxes for fire service and expect a service. if I refuse to pay those taxes why should I expect a service for free. These people knew the cost and made a choice. they need to take the full responsibility.

I wouldn't let $75 dollars stop me from trying save a person's property with that much at stake. I guess I'm just compassionate in that way. What is my problem, and mine alone, is they just stood there and let a man who was begging the firefighters to help him and they refused.

Thats because you are a normal compassionate human being. You want to help others and wont let money get in the way. Thats what we need in this country, and the world.

I mean so many people spend hours every sunday worshiping an extra terrestrial being, but they wont spend the same amount of time helping other humans. If people spent that same amount of time working on their community and helping those in need, the country would be a much better place.

We all need to grow up and stop being so self-centered ansd selfish. Help others! It will help you too "thumbsup"

I don't have to read the entire story to know that it's still wrong to sit aside and let a persons home burn to the ground. He didnt pay the fee, but to me it's obviously focused on poor people.

Firefighters take an oath to protect and save lives. What if a child was inside? What the hell is wrong with peoples morals these days?????

Lending a hand to someone who needs help is one thing, carrying someone through life because they refuse to carry themself is something different.

You are talking about a god damn fire! You help! You help! You Help! You do not set aside and watch it burn. I don't care who it is or what the circumstances are. You help! That is what you do. I have grabbed a hose several times in my life tio extinguish someone elses fire. I do not expect anything in return for that. It is just the right thing to do.

Karmas a bitch. I bet all of those guys who stood by and watched will have a similar situation in their life that will turn out very bad for them. Thats just how it goes.

Then you should pay his fire dept fees.

The first person this thread was about (see the first page) had his house catch on fire and the fire dept put the fire out even though he hadn't paid.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. And yes, if you are standing there grab the garden hose, but don't use the fire dept that other people are paying to keep running.

Mayor David Crocker said:
He said firefighters will help when people are in danger, regardless of whether they have paid.

Right in the article it explains that the fire department will help if anyone is in danger, even if they haven't payed the $75. However, if no one is at risk, and they haven't payed for the protection/coverage/what-have-you, they will not risk the life of their employees, equipment, or time on someone who clearly acknowledged that they don't want anyone else's help by making the CHOICE not to pay for the service if the time ever comes where they will need it.

Sorry guys. Just makes me sick. I remember USA the way it used to be, and I really miss it. Even the heartland is a tweaked out meth hole nowdays.

Just had to vent and thanks for clarifying that there were no people inside in danger

I live out in the county and dont pay to have garbage picked up...should I get pissed cause they dont stop and pick up my junk? No different, you pay for a service, you get it, you dont pay...well...YOU DONT. Its not hidden either, its not that people dont know about this service fee. Its like insurance, if you dont go out and pay for it, should you receive help when you wreck your car? What about lawn mowin, should the neighborhood kids mow your grass even tho you didnt pay em? Noone was in harms way, and the fire dept was there to make sure but you dont pay they cant help you.

Sorry to hear about the loss for the family, never a fun time and theres no point in poking fun at the fact they didnt pay up. Hopin they get back on their feet quick!

Matt

the neigboor offered the fee allmost 10fold:roll:

Its not COD ..... its not pay as you go ..... its not pay only when you need it ......

If they let him pay while the house was on fire then someones gonna complain about that. Then they have to start billing people for putting their fires out. Hell if the guy cant/doesnt pay the fee to begin with what makes anyone think hes gonna pay the bill when it comes in.

Simple, Pay the fee, shut the fark up and keep your house.

My feeling is that emergency services shouldn't be a "pay for" service. Sometimes, you need to save people from their own stupidity by just taking the fee straight out of their paycheck.

The funny thing is, this will probably cost the county/state way more than $75 in the end. You now have someone with no house, clothing, furniture, food, etc., which likely means they end up hitting up tax funded services to get them back on their feet. That, plus the cost to the county/state to address any issues as a result of the trailer burning to the ground (water and gas lines, etc.).

Sooo......why is that? Most counties in this country it IS "pay as you go".......why can this county not grasp that concept? Two separate instances, both with bad outcomes. The county needs to change their policy so that they quit leaving their citizens hung out to dry.

My folks live in the country.....at least 10 miles from the closest city. Their neighbor's house was recently struck by lightning and caught fire....the FD was there within 5 minutes. Why? Because the county taxes paid for a station to be built near their house for the benefit of those living in that area.

What you guys are missing is that the fire department in question is the city's fire department. The county does not have fire coverage, only the city, and they have offered coverage to people outside the city limits for a very low fee of $75. The residents of the town pay for the department through their own city tax structure. It's not like this department is charging every person a fee. It's a service they've offered to people who are not residents of their town with a small fee to offset it.

I could see having this type of animosity if the department was just money hungry. They're not. $75 per year is a friggin' insanely low price to pay.

The guy that this thread was originally started to discuss had a fire before. He hadn't paid the fee. They put it out and he had to go in later and pay the fee. When it came time to renew, he refused once again, thinking that they would just take care of him again, and he could just have a repeat of before. This time, they didn't come running. He should have known better, but instead, he chose to try to abuse the system. It's people like this who ruin things for everybody else.

Exactly. Their county is FAILING to provide basic services to its citizens.
