So when it came time for my TF2 to relocate to Canada, Ty and I worked out an agreement for Gobo the Explorer...Here's a pic from Ty's ad
I was very excited for his arrival. Unfortunately the US Postal Service saw fit to rough our boy up a bit...
Any time I've seen that decal, it's been pasted on the box by my local Post office. Fortunately, the only Damage was Gobo's air dam over the windshield, the ladders pulled off and one wiper MIA. Other than that it was just an abused box
Here are the specs...
-Chassis is a ladder frame for semi trucks cut down to size fulltime 6 wheel drive locked differentials.
-TLT axles with lockouts on the rear two axles.
-Chino military springs for rear axles.
-Axle transmission with Tamiya silver can motor.
-Castle creations Sidewinder ESC Tamiya Hummer wheels.
-8 brand new Proline 1.9 flatiron tires.
-All driveshafts are Traxxas 2.5 Maxx shafts some have modified metal yokes.
- Custom panhard setup in front.
-Ultimate scale shocks in front.
- associated rc18 rear axle shocks
-links are a mix between axial and Traxxas.
-Crawling coles (raceway hobbies) transfer case puts the power to the axles.
This build will be a two faceted point of view. One as a straight build...one as a builder changing the previous owners setup to suit my style, plans, budget and dysfunction:mrgreen:.
The first order of business was to get a front suspension that worked. The previous setup was essentially just a mock up. I flipped the LCA's around so I could use the offset end at the chassis and thereby lower the arms a tick. I also decided to run the shock and LCA on the same plane (like a stock SCX10) to further alleviate the issues of super short LCA's and other binding issues. This worked a treat and by lengthening the Panhard rod as well as the single UCA I have a suspension that cycles very freely with a minimum of bump steer. Speaking of the shocks...they had to go. RC4wd makes some great stuff....but in my opinion, their shocks and Coil over shock/spring set ups stink. I replaced the shocks with a set of stock SCX10 shocks that have served me very well over the last 2 years. Ideally i'd like to run leaf packs up there like the 1:1 T4 rigs do.
Next up, possibly later this evening will be to fab a mount for the steering servo and get the electronics situated. For now I'll run what came with it. Once my Holmes BR-XL is back, I'll Likely run that.
Also got more done yesterday than I'd anticipated...Got the steering completed (just a mock up servo until I get to the shop tuesday) as well as the mounting setup for the body...and six tires glued:bugeyes:
In the next day or two I'll get the battery placement set (this is a tough one as there's not much room under the cab and I'm not set to fab the rear box for a a little while. May have to push that up...)
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, the inspiration(s)
