So you are saying why progress when you already have somthing that works "ok"?

I'm all for progress! Just don't jump up and down on the established menthods just because something new comes along.

I would say 330+ MHP is better than ok. IMO torque wins drag races, not HP. This is were a V8 has an advantage.

What would happen if you took a fast 4 banger and multiplied it times two?

An 8 cylinder motor that'll kick the best of the best to the freaking curb!

We call those Formula 1 engines. Technology. Where's the American motor companies in that motorsport?

Top Fuel and Funny car? Yeah that's a hard one. Huge engine, huge blower.

All the torque and horsepower you can get still is more difficult in the end when you have to move a tank down the track.

I would love to see that! The only problem I see is, to get that kind of power from that small a package, it cost LOT's of money and the reliability isn't there.

Everyone knows american engines are dead last in efficiency and technology, we just like them for the sound, and the tag "American Made" even though most arent even made here anymore.....

Your so called American dodge or chevy was probably built in Mexico..... Makes a japanese car even more enticing.

To each his own. that is what I was taught growing up. Now I have formed some opinions growing up and I am not a fan of "ricers but I have learned that some of them are fast and diferent. I have been into muscle cars all my life and also into trucks. When I lived in Michigan I would be a pit monkey for my buddy's truck at the mud drags and that was a quick truck for his class. I used to own a 69 Blazer with a 396 pushing around 450 horse and turning 40's. Now I just can't justify the cost of having the mud truck anymore being where I am living now.

Crawlerman that is a nice looking car.

To some, I just don't like them. Now if I could get the New Camero w/ a Vette motor! I would be a happy camper!

crawlerman, with your boost comment, couldn't that also be applied to a V-8?

I know that a 2200 pound car with a 300 HP I-4 engine will out run a 4400 pound car with 600 HP V-8. But isn't boost relitive to cubic inches/liters? Throw 10 pound of boost into a engine and the extra HP it makes would be linear to its base HP/displacement.

What I mean is, lets say 10 pounds of boost will increase HP in the 300HP 2.0 liter I-4 by 100HP. Then that same 10 pounds of boost should increase the 5.0 liter 600HP V-8 by 250HP, right?

Plus, all the mods you can do to a I-4 can be done to a V-6 or V-8.

Just some thoughts as I was reading though this thread:mrgreen:

dont you guys and your socky burns have a big ego
Reason #193 that this dipsh1t needs to go away!

And about slapping two 4-bangers together..........................okay, I will bite, why not? Why haven't any of the import engine builders stepped up with the "ultimate" 8-cylinder?(outside of being one long a$$ motor)

Don't get me wrong, if Honda built toasters, a Honda toaster would be in my kitchen!! I sold off my '88 Civic Hatch with "a hard" 187K on the engine, with all cylinders running 180-190 psi at time of sale.

BOING!

Did you see the crazy bastard on the right, never once plugged his ears:shock:

RD400, that isnt entirely true. If everything could be scaled up and proportional, then the fastest cars would have an inline 20 cilynder with 5 turbos. :flipoff:
