how long will a stock axel last

as the title says how long will it last if assembled correctly. this includes the gears and bearings or should I just start buying upgrades now. oh and if you're still running a stock one how many packs/comps

I've heard that some socks last years with the right modifications. I just started wearing socks, but I have high hopes that they will last awhile. I've done a lot of research, and a lot of people have helped me out on what to do with my socks. Hope this helps....

I usually get about 9 months out of my socks, but they say you should throw old ones away and buy new ones whenever you buy new shoes "thumbsup"

And axel Roses carrer didnt last that long..really not past the 80's :lmao: I hated the 80's and its music

I run my socks to the ground, If it has a few small holes, no big deal.

my stock XR10 axles did fine on 2s, but stripped 2 gears in the front axle and 1 in the rear the first time I ran a 3s pack. (just burning around the carpet in my apartment)

some people have good luck with the stock gears but you defenatly want to take care of the bearing problem ASAP, I ran traxxas bushings with stock motor plates a while just to get rid of atleast 8 of the shitty bearings. then got VP motor plates to take care of the remaining 6 8mm bearings.

I upgraded the gear cases to HR aluminum aswell and still run the traxxas bushings, if you go with VP cases they will come with upgraded bearings (RC4WD delrin cases are a good option aswell)

For stock XR axles... I ran mine with just a VP bushing upgrade for about three months, till one bad bounce took out the final drive gear in the rear axle. If your not looking to spend a boat load of money right off the bat the VP bushing mod is a good choice.....and an upgrade from the stock bearings....but still not bomb proof.

I ran the most of the first winter season with the stock gears with the 9mm bearing mod and never had one bit of problem. I was using tekin 45t machine wound motors on 3s. The only reason I switched to the vp stuff is because T-buck and Kasper where having troubles with their gears (both were running Holmes handwounds) and I didn't want to travel an hour and a half just to sit and watch a comp because of broken parts. I think if you don't buy really good motors, do the 9mm mod (I have a reamer if you need it) and maybe replace the 8mm bearing on the other side of the drive gear with a traxxas bushing you will be not have any problems.

FYI, Jorgy and Creeper both have totally stock setups in their xr's yet.

thanks this kinda gives me an idea of how soon I will need to upgrade I planned on running Integy motors for now. o and can you give me a link location to 9 mm mod

Took me quite a while to break the stock gears with bushings and 9mm bearings. But, if you wad the tire up around the knuckle, and give it a bunch of throttle with 3s batteries powering a Fantom 35t motor, stuff does indeed break.

Im good on the pics I managed to skim the tips and tricks for about hour to find a reference to someones build so I understand what has to be done and thanks for the help and I should be able to ream them out at work
