Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

Try putting the power wire back in coming from your speed control another words just run both BEC's. I have seen this work many times for my self and others running similar setups to yours with the same problems. Many guys have been running this way including myself for a long time and has performed flawlessly ever scenes."thumbsup"

Thanks Bear, when I run the wire from the ESC in place and the BEC plugged in all I get is flashing lights from both ESC and receiver and no radio.

Ive read the 24 pages of this thred looking for answers,My fxr is shutting down when I have to steer alot so I adjusted the end points like said further back in the thred this did not help.I notice that when this happens the lites on the esc flash from 4 to 1&2 if thats the temp then thats normal? this esc worked fine in the rig it was previusly in,It has ccbec set at 6volts radio is a spectrum 2.0 the servo is a hi tec 5998tg this esc is about a year old. any help will be greatly aprishiated. Thanks

This sounds like a bad bec. Make sure you've removed the red wire from the FXR if you run a seperate BEC. If the servo is amping out and it's turning off your spektrum receiver this make sense. Spektrum offers up a rx cap that can help with this issue as well.

The led's will cycle while the esc is in nuetral to indiacte the internal speedo temps, this is normal.

It may be just a radio setting but does anyone else notice .... "turbo lag" .... with the new software?

It starts off a little smoother but when I punch it there is a long gradual build up to full speed.

it starts off a little smoother but when I punch it I can tell it doesn't have the same responsiveness as it used to.

Have you reset your expo yet?

I'm running one of these in my Super and it doesn't have near the low end control as my Mamba Max. So, I decided to pull it out and put in a mamba max. I still haven't recieved the email update.

So is this updated software worth picking up a Tekin Hotwire for?

My rig seems pretty smooth as far as I can tell, but I haven't driven many trucks to compair it too.

Yes it is in my opinion. Even without the new software I was always tweaking my esc. Now I get better control with less effort. I like the new update. Split the cost with a friend or club. It's not too much.

I know what you mean. I bought 2 FXR's and I have no low end control either. With the handwound 45T motors that I'm using, my rigs are way too jerky and fast on startup. It's just not smooth like my castle esc's. I was excited at first about the FXR's, not I'm getting disgusted. I emailed RandyP, but haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully I get the software upgrade and get these things fixed.

After installing the new updates, I now have 2 more adjustments with the hotwire, brake strength and brake profile. My question is, can you adjust those without the hotwire and if so how. Only 6 led's on the esc but 8 adjustments on the hotwire. Also I am a little confused on the differences of the drage brake versus the brake strength. If someone could explain these things I would appreciate it. Thanks

I believe the brake strength is only going to be used when you actually have brake. ;-) We just use forward and reverse.

Drag brake is just that, how much drag the esc creates to slow you down coming off of a hill.

Sounds like the same problem. Try putting the power wire back in coming from your speed control another words just run both BEC's. Very true Bear in talking with the Spektrum guys yesterday thet said the voltage from both the ESC and BEC would be averaged I had 4.88 v from the ESC and 6v from my CC BEC the two voltages being they are in parallel and are averaged and the receiver can handle it no problem. The way mine functioned was the BEC had to be disconnected when shut down by not doing so the system would not start up again with radio input. This is the process that worked for me radio on connect the battery get radio control first then plug in the BEC. "thumbsup"

I wish we would get ESCs with better BEC voltage at least 6v they are so close and eliminate the need for external BECs all together.

Brake strength is used in a forward only application or if you're running reverse delay. If you running immediate reverse(which most of you are) then it doesn't get used.

Drage brake is an "automatic" brake that works like compression braking in a real trail rig or car.

Anyone that has not received the update please please email me here: Rpike@teamtekin.com . IF you get no reply from me at all check your spam folders. I do not have any outstanding software requests currently.

so if i just received my fxr and hotwire today in the mail do i still need this upgrade or will it upgrade when i download the software ??thanks, can't wait to try out the FX-r
EMAIL SENT ALSO

i'm wondering about the gap between the intial power up and the trigger response from the rig. I turn the spektrum on, then the esc, and then after the beeping, i pull the trigger and nothing. it's like I have to pull it a couple times before the rig fires up and tears off across the ground. what would be causing this? if this is not related to the upgrade, sorry for being OT, but if it's related to the upgrade or there is a related issue between the esc to motor, servo or such, lmk.

i do like the slower response but there is still a dark spot on the trigger, I'm pulling it about 1/8" back before I get a response...when the rig is fired up and ready to go go...but it's a huge difference when compared to the olde version.

let me know about my question.

thnx

Even though the software is free, I find paying $32 for the Hotwire excessive.

$32 for an electronic device is not excessive.

We pay $22 or so to change the voltage in the CC BEC's.

The update itself is worth it. But you can always find someone else in your club to go in together on one.

Not sure where you are from but most $100+ electronic devices I buy come WITH an interface cable and ability to upload or program firmware right out of the box.
