Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

You need to widen your nuetral width a bit. The FXR has a 7 led tree that has a lot of diagnostic capabilities to it. You can see full throttle, full brake and nuetral just by watching it.

Why do you run your PC so high?

When you setup your new radio was it too 2 months ago? I'd try a new radio call making sure that your "travel" adjustments are at 150 on both BEFORE you calibrate your esc.

How much does this truck weight and what is the grade of the hill you're using as a test? Worn motors and soft springs can prevent good drag brakes also(yes I see yours is new).

what's PC?

Randy. yeah. a bit more then two months ago, then about a month and half, maybe more, when your guy offered the new beta download, my lhs owner offered the upgrade so I could get more slow to roll on the forward with less nuetral. are you saying this could be the issue? it doesn't happen consistantly. Also my spektrum 2.0 is set to 125 on thrl and str. the trims are both at 0. and once the kids get out of school we're headed to go play and see if somehow all this is from my trim being bumped or such. the truck is 8# on the dot. FLat grount and 45* - but see, it's like an old girlfriend; sometimes she'll roll, and sometimes she won't. heck on monday i was taking a reverse off a 30* boulder and it happened.

So i have read this thread and i am still up in the air about one thing with the FXR.

I have a berg with 2 HH hand wound 35T motors 12t pinions and a 3cell 11.1 lipo

Will the FXR be able to handle this? if so how well?

I am using a Mamba Max now and it works fine, but i would like to run the smaller FXR.

PC = Push Conntrol..

When this is set lower on my truck, it likes to coast to a stop. Kind of like pushing a clutch in on a 1.1 vechical.

I am not sure way you would I want it set at a lower number? I want to the truck to stop when I let go of the throttle control. (Any matter, even setting to a lower number it doesn't help my hill hold..)

As for the grade of hill. It doesn't seem to like any grade.

As for the settings on the control.. We have playing around with every set on the Radio and on the Tekin. An it doesn't matter what we adjust..

I have Swaped tire sizes thinking the FX-R didn't like the 5.5. That didn't work. I have bought a few new motors an tried them. Even new Springs. Still there's no Hill Hold. It's very odd!

I run a berg with FX-R, 3 cell Thunder Power, 2 JPCustoms Warrior-R's. Works great. ;-)

I have the push control and current limit set to off. "thumbsup"

Just got a brand new FXR today, soldered it up, programmed it with my Hotwire, calibrated it to my radio, crawled around in the kitchen for about 3 minutes............and up a in big cloud of smoke it went:x:x:x. Everything is wired correctly, triple checked before plugging in the battery.

Anybody know what the warranty deal is with Tekin, do they stand behind their products? I've been a Castle guy for the last 2 years, and decided to give the Tekins a shot....how very disappointing.:-(

Likely toasted a FET. Been there. "thumbsup"

They took care of me greatly, but I was on the Team back then. :ror:

Tanis,

Of course we stand behind our products. All you need to do is go the webite:

http://www.teamtekin.com/service.html

Fill out the form, mail it in. Make sure to fill out the form completely.

Hard to say what happened, either way from the sounds of it you're clearly under warranty.

PC is "punch control" this should soften the power going to the motor which I wouldn't think you'd want in a crawler.

Guys, Push control SHOULD NOT be used in crawling unless you want your crawler to continue forward movement AFTER you've let of throttle.

You also CAN NOT have both PC and DB set. The FXR can only do one. SO, if your drag brakes dont' work make sure your Push Control is OFF!

Thank you sir, I will do that8).

On thing I noticed right away on the table after I plugged it in(don't know if this might ring a bell as to what went wrong or not), but it did not have any low speed resolution, it was either on or off, it didn't want to crawl at all.
I soldered up an FXR for my buddy last weekend, and it works great, with superb low speed resolution, so there must have been something awry in mine. I'm glad to know you guys stand behind your products, I'd like to continue to run them"thumbsup"

Setup:
FX-R
35T Integy
3PKS with Spektrum Pro
Spektrum Pro receiver
6 cell NiMH 5000mAh

I just programmed my FX-R and it would not program the full throttle first, but it would take reverse first and then full throttle. So everything is now in reverse. I checked the reverse settings on the radio before programming to confirm a normal setting and they were. When LED6 was blinking it would not recognize a full throttle trigger position, it would however recognize full brake.

I rebinded the receiver to the radio and reprogrammed it and same thing. The battery is fully charged, just finished. Can I just reveres the throttle chanel and go or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

When I set up my first FX-R on my old DX3, I had the same issue. I simply reversed the settings on my Tx just as you have done and had no troubles.

My second FX-R set up perfectly...I still don't know why that was.

Perhaps Kaetwo or Ty can chime in with something?

I was running an FXR in my GC2 with a 35T HH motor and my drag brake worked fine. I put the FXR in my Berg with 2 55T's and it was still good. Dropped 35T's in the Berg and my drag brake sucks. Any reason for this? Tried 45T's, too, but drag brake is still too weak. I ended up going to dual FXR's with 35T's and a 4pk, but would like to know the answer as to why this is? Other locals are having same issue.

Im also having the same problem. Works great with 55t very stong DB, then I got some 35t, No DB at all. So I got some 45ts, same thing no DB. Something the DB will work if I hold the throttle so the rig cant roll back but other most of the time the DB dosent work. I also reversed the endbell on the rear motor.

That's odd, as I've never seen or heard of that happening before. I've setup dozens of Tekins for local club members but it's pretty low in number compared to what the Tekin crew has delt with. One thing that I've noticed whenever I run into anything quirky is that resetting the ESC goes a long way. More on that below;

I have not had that issue with my FXR and Berg and I change motors from 35T to 70T all the time. My gearing never changes though and the motors are in new condition. I would try resetting the ESC whenever you change out your motors. That's what I do. See below ;-)

Here is how you reset the ESC.

1 - Reset your Radio to factory defaults. If your using a digital radio, use the reset feature, dont just bring the trims back to zero.
2 - With the radio off, turn on the ESC and hold down both buttons until the lights dance around, then release. Once the lights are stable, turn off the ESC. This will zero out the ESC.
3 - Now recalibrate the Radio to the ESC per the Tekin instructions.
4 - Download and install any ESC updates via the Hotlink (not necissary unless you want the latest updates) If you have the hotlink, I highly recommend doing this step.
5 - Reset your ESC. I like the following settings (Reverse/Forward, 3C Lipo Cutoff and 32 Drag Brake)

That should do it. Here is my Berg setup;

- It's HEAVY
- Rover Tires (which requires a higher drag brake)
- Dual 55x1 (Not hand wound but dyno'ed and tuned by me) Heavy spring on the Pos. and Med. on the Neg. I run a high silver brush, full face.
- 3C 2200 Lipo
- Hitec Digital Servo with a 6amp External BEC (Holmes BEC)
- Spektrum DX3R

I hope this helps.

Only 32 for Drag Brake !! wow. I'll try resetting my radio and esc. I already updated it. That did seem to help smooth out the bottom end.

Yup! I change from 30 - 40 depending on the terrain, weather, temperature, tires, etc.... 32 is my standard goto setting though ;-)
