Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

Ok so, Im running a berg with a single ESC, I have great Drag Brake with 55T motors, switch to 35t and drag brake does not always work. I have to hold the throttle on for a second to make the drag brake work. Then if I move the steering it release's. So I get a hot wire, do the download, drag brake is at 100, NW is at 90 still the same crap happens. Ive done all the reseting tricks in the book. So I say f**k it and I have a 3PK so I'll just do the dual ESC's. Just got everything wired up and the same crap happens. So, I get 45t motors to try ( cheap integy's ) Same thing no DB. So i even took the springs off the 55t's (novaks, they where stiffer) and but them on the 45t, no DB. So I dont think its a radio setting because they work great with 55t novaks. The 35T are team brood hand wounds, and the 45t integy. So do I spend more money on some 35T novaks and see what happens or what?

If you have not already, I would set the neutral width at 100, zero everything in the radio, and recalibrate it.

I am running JPCustoms 35 and 45t's with my brake at 50% and its almost too much.

I've tried that also, the thing I dont get is I can have the NW at 10 with the 55T's and it works perfect. I just going to gear the crap out of the 55T's and see what happens. Hopefully I will get enough will speed and still have some good low end power. I'll try 15T pinions in with the 55T's.

Also when you say your brake setting is at 50 thats the DB right? What do you have the brake strength set at? Mine is at maximum.

Also wondering about the new software. I notice it has no option for Push Control, so do I have to check on the ESC and make sure its off?

Changing just the pinions will make a little differance, but not as much as you might think.

Yes, I am talking about the drag brake.

I am not at home, but I could have sworn that I still had the push control option on my new software. You do have the software from the Tekin site right?

The new version does not have the push control. Redownloaded it again last night just to be sure. I was comparing mine to the screen shot you sent me and something did not look the same. The push control was not there:roll:

When you look and Randy's screen shot it dosent have PC either. Im just really stumped on why the DB is not working with the lower turn motors. The only other different thing is with the Futaba radio I have to have the throttle set to reverse in the radio, when its in normal the ESC wont pick up any throttle response. But it works with 55 so I dont think its a radio thing. I even found how to adjust the throttle trigger end points in the radio and that didn't help either. So I tried my spectrum radio from my MRC, and the same thing happens. That would make me think its not a radio issue. So I even tried using only one motor, one ESC, wired like in a normal 1/10 scale truck or car, and the drag brake still acted the same. Im lost at what to try next?

I'd like to you to take a look at the Led's on your FXR. What I'm looking for is to watch the led's at nuetral. The only one that should be lit at all while in nuetral is led 4. I'm confident that you have a radio/esc calibration issue.

Have you tried resetting your model on the 3pk? Make sure that you have no ABS function active. There is also a setting in the radio called "brake travel" or something similiar. Make sure that this is set properly. My next though just for a "test" is to use a different radio/receiver setup.

I will watch them and see what they do. I did reset the model on my 3PK (using the fasst system), I even tried a different model also. I even swapped out the TX/RX with the spectrum one from my MRC. Same thing would happen. I have the new software installed on the ESC, and Ive reset them multiple times.

Would it matter what the voltage is set on my CC BEC ? I think its at 6v

What really gets me is that it works great with 55T motors? How would a radio setting make a difference with different motors? 55t to 45 or 35t?

So I just got home and checked the LEDS. It goes to the 4th one then every 2 seconds it jumps to the 1 LED for a flash then back to the 4th one for 2 seconds and keeps repeating the cycle. I reset everything and tried again. Same thing happens. So I took the fasst system out of my 3PK and install the FM, reset everything, same thing. So I then tried a stock traxxas TQ3. Same results. Then I tried my stock losi radio from my MRC, and had the same results. Every time I reset everything and started over. I did this on all 3 FXR's I have, took about 1hr and 1/2 testing everything. All with the same results. All the ESC's have been updated with hotwire to the new software. NW setting set at 90. Sooooo what do you think ? Anybody else's FXRs do the same or do they stay at LED 4 with out moving until radio input?

Well, looks like you covered the radio issue"thumbsup"

I can check my tonight, but won't be until 9:30 or so. I would say try giving Tekin a call.

Just got a chance to check mine. Its doing the same as yours........staying on the #4 LED, then flashing to the #1 LED after 2 seconds.

Both of my bergs are doing the same thing....same setups.

Tekin FXR
DX3R
BEC @ 6v wired directly to servo

Here is where my setting are at right now............

pretty puzzling for sure, i run dual tekins and integy v11 35,s and they work great..when running a dual setup are you running 2 batts..are you running 2s or 3s?

He is running 1 battery, 3S.

He is recalibrating the speed controls every time he tries a different radio.

Joe, my LED's are just like yours. They flash #4 and then 1 flash on #1, then back to #4.

Yes Im recalibrating the ESC, I even doing the full reset, and model reset on my radio. Made sure my ABS function is off on my radio. Im running 1 3cell battery. I have a 2200mah and a 1300mah both are 25C with a 35C burst rating. I even switched the end bell 180 on the rear motor. One of the FXR's is a older one. Im going to install another new one tonight so both are new ones. And try again, lol. My CC BEC is going through the receiver. You think that could be causing the issue? And yes I have the red wires pulled out,lol I must be doing something different then you guys.

i was going to ask about the red wire and i c you know about that..man i dont know..are you useing a y connector for the 2 esc,s or are they on seperate channells..although radio issues dont explain why 55,s work:shock:..just for shiites and giggles try a 2s pack, mine is working great but i,m only @2s right now..i think its worth a try

He is running the esc's in seperate channels. I know it is bugging the heck out of him trying to figure out what is wrong.
