Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

I did not know where else to post this question but here it is, I bought a used FXR in the FS section and it does not have the gold colored solder posts. I dont like how some of the wires are soldered to the bottom of the electronics board that is exposed and want to re solder them to the top (also has a broken capacitor). Is this normal in an older FX-R or do I need to replace the solder posts. I just don't want to ruin it. Thanks for any help.
 
You just have to be VERY careful not to cross solder the connections.

For a setup like that, I like to tin a piece of wire and then cut it about 1/16" long (the tined part), then place the wire through the post hole and solder the back side. That way the wire coating is covering the wire all the way down to the board and it's very nice and clean on the backside.

The cap can be soldered to the wire in a variety of ways, but the closer to the board the better ;-)

The posts are there for a reason. They act as a heatsink. However some are succesful with removing them and running the unit. We of course don't reccomend this as it's consider modifying the unit and voids the warranty. If you want it fixed you're better off sending it to us.
 
Hey guy's, I'm looking at getting the FXR/35T combo for my scx10,it has a bluebird 14kg/190oz servo,I'm a bit concerned about heat issue's as i will putting the esc in a plastic box as i do a lot of water and mud driving in the winter,summer time the lid would be off but in winter it be sealed shut,i have read a lot of good things about this speedy but are worried about it getting to hot,i run 7.2v nimh's and a winch (2ch radio so i have a steering/winch switch) i would rather use the internal bec as an external bec is just one more thing to keep dry,
The box would be the same size as the one below,it has the RX and the winch controller in it ,any thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

I mount mine in the Axial electronics box and it works great in the winter. It's cool enough that I don't worry about it, however in the summer, you would want to check the temperature once in a while to make sure that it doesn't get too toasty.

Thanks matey "thumbsup" i didn't even think of the axial box,i will find it and put the esc in there :) in the summer time it wont need it to be waterproof so i will leave the lid off,this is a very informative thread,good work guys 8)
 
Randy P, so if I were to send the ESC to you the posts could be added? How about the cap and some wire leads off each post so that I could just add the connectors I need. How about the cost and a time line? This is the last part of my Wreckluse build and am anxious to finish. Having an odd issue with my new fxr's, everything wired and good to go all responds ok thanks to Harley's 4 pl how to. Thing is when doing the one touch setup i had to use rev(push trigger forward) to get the esc to recognize my input then neutral and then forward(trigger pulled back) when all is done it responds fine its just that i have a higher speed in reverse than i do in forward. All EPA's were set to zero before the one touch programming was performed as well. Only thing i can think of is i have the reverse dialed down through my tekin hotwire and maybe its interpreting forward for reverse through the one touch setup. Any help would be great. Happy holidays to all!!!

Im gonna dail the reverse up through the hotwire when i get home and see if it goes full speed in forward then. If it does that will tell me it is confused on fwd and rev. Where ill go from there im not sure...... I guess ill just start trying to figure out where to set my controls to rev instead of normal or keep reverse up all the way on the esc's and set the rev EPA with the 4pl

If your going to run a 3s you would need a 35t or less.

Pro has slightly better specs (no motor limit on 2S), not enough of a difference to me though.

Fxr-13t motor limit, slightly higher on resistance, slightly smaller/lighter
Fxr pro- no motor limit, slightly lower on resistance , slightly larger/heavier

I would say the PRO just gives the user more motor options...
