I had a customer come in last week looking for a 4wd truck to get so his grandson could play with while visiting and could be used when his neighbor, who happens to work for AMS Performance, has people over at the house racing. I helped him decide what to get and what not and apparently he was in over the weekend and bought a Slash 4x4. Well, he stopped by again this morning with a Mini Monster Baja wondering if I could take a look at it to see if I could figure out what was an issue with it. I couldn't get it to power up at all even though thebatteries had power so I figured the ESC was shot and found it was no longer available so I told him so. When he came into the store, he also happened to have his dog with him, a small one, and he said he let her chase the truck around for exercise and did get it wet when she chased it in wet grass. I also told him that even though the ESC was probably shot, it should still be possible to fix it so she still had something to chase that was closer to her in size. Instead of spending the money to upgrade it, he decided to just give it to me as a thank you for the help I've given him so far as well as any future help.

I did find that Castle has a a system that should work nicely and I shod be able to pick up for around $90.

But was wondering if there might be something a bit milder that somebody else like Tekin, Losi, or Associated.

Does somebody make 12mm hexes for these trucks or will the ones off the Mini Crawler or Traxxas 1/16's work? Looks like there is still a good supply of parts available for it from Horizon including the carbon fiber chassis plates!

Definately a fun but very poorly built truck! I have one and love but it takes a few parts to keep it from breaking the duffs often. You work at a hobby store, maybe you can help me out with something. Do you know of the locked duffs from the mini crawler would fit this truck? Looking at the parts manual it looks like they would. The biggest issue with this truck is the diffs. I think if I can lock the rear and tone down the motor it will last way longer. I've been buying parts from eBay as no hobby stores around me stock them anymore or want to order them. But definately a cool truck especially for free.

Wait up, I remember how I was going to try and mod, let me re-think and I'll ask later lol

If it doesn't have a dual disk slipper from the mini t, definately upgrade it. I think bigger wheels and tires will kill this truck very fast.

So far as I can tell, the R&P's are the same as the Mini Crawler and since the trans gears are the same as the Mini-T, the metal gears from the Mini-SCT will be a direct fit into the trans too.......not cheap at $15 for the set, but should drop right into it! I've got the Mini Crawler and when I dropped in the hardened lockers the diffs look just like the metal R&P's for the MLST we had for stock replacement parts at the time, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I could swap them back and forth between the two.

I've run a 8000kV motor in my stock trans Mini-T on 7.2v without an issue (haven't tried 2s yet, afraid to try 3s:shock: ), so hopefully the stock slipper won't be an issue. I would like to try some of the Trencher/Desperado combo for the 1/16 E-Revo and Summit on the truck, they'd be pretty bad ass looking on it. Looks like Losi still sells the CVD's for it, don't know if I would bother with those though.

Believe it or not, those toro systems dont run too bad. I have smoked many mambas racing mini late models and sprints on carpet and started running those toro 5050kv systems without any issues "thumbsup""thumbsup"for sure

I just picked up two mini LST2s for $70 (same as your mini monster baja). Neat little rigs. Sooner or later one of them is getting my MRC trans, Novak Mini setup, a steering upgrade, locked diffs, custom extended flat chassis, and cage work and panels to mimic a Rhino or RZR type vehicle. Had one with MRC axles not too long ago, fun as hell. High COG, not a lot of flex, and you pretty much just bounce your way up the trail. No finesse needed...

I should have brought it to work with me today, we got on of the Traxxas 380 motors for the brushed 1/16 Mini's and I wasn't too sure how well that would fit. If it did, I already have a XL-2.5 esc here at home that could be used for the time being.

Check out this guy's stuff for a 380 size motor mount. He also sells a pretty slick extended chassis you may want to check out. Otherwise, hit me up if you need parts. I've got a trans, stock chassis, and a bunch more that live in a scrap pile since starting my UTV/SXS project. Even have another rear dogbone if you decide to try the longer chassis...

Thanks RedRanger, what are you using for a servo?

Told a former coworker who used to own one that I got his truck for free.......he told me not to waste my time and money, just sell it...................

That said, he reminded me that he had Mini Crawler stub axles on it, so that would make putting 12mm axles on it a piece of cake! I also found a system from the Dynamite Fuze like that would work for me, and it would be fairly reasonable too.

When I build the UTV it will get some sort of high torque single servo to replace the dual tiny stockers. With it being focused more toward crawling, I'll need as much torque as possible. A bell crank setup without a saver is in the works. Just have too many other projects going right now.

Thanks RedRanger, my is just sitting in storage, most of my stuff it parked right now, hours at work suck and my car payment, fuel costs, and other fiscal reponsibilities are eating what little money I do bring home right now.
