New OCM 2.2 Crawler Review

Are the gears Alumn as well? Also is there going to be an upgrade for beefer axle shafts. Looking at the Ground clearance over the Clod. I'm thinking it might make a Nice Super Class axle as well.

OCMCRAWLERUSA.. I check that site for parts, I didn't see the axle Tubes listed?

Would one beable to put two long side tubes and shafts on one gear case for wider track with for a Super Class Rig?

this looks like a great truck...to bad i hadnt of gotten my hands on one for the low price.Doh.Oh well,i'm still very interested in one thats for sure.

Looking at the axle, this should be possible. It would end up being an "outside of hex to outside of hex" +/- 10.5" axle.

The mounting surface of the tube would also have to be ground/grooved some to match up with the diff, and the existing groove filled in however.

I had my first casualty today.

While playing around on the rocks, I got into a gap that was really tight. Everyone around told me not to clamp on it but wanting to see how much it could take, I went for it. It was wedged into a full stall. It took a TON of abuse before I bent a shock shaft 30 degrees. There would not have been a plastic piece left unbroken on my Axial. There was no other damage.

Now, for the good news. The shocks on the OCM (even though they look huge in comparison) are the exact same size as the Axial. in fact, I used an Axial shock shaft in the OCM. The piston is the same as well. Total down time, 15 minutes.

Here is another video with the OCM in it.

Robb, can you give me some measurements on the short side? the length of both axle tubes to the outside hex, then the width of the gear box itself.

What am I wondering......

If what you stated above can be done, I am wondering what the width would be with 2 short sides?;-)

The two short side configuration isn't going to work. The motor would be in the way of everything.;-)

IIRC,

The track width on Davids rig is right at 11" with Axial wheels.. 11 1/2" with the stock wheels...If you add TTR wheel adapters to change to the hex you need and your wheel offset on 40's... Your probably looking around 13-15".. rough guesstimate...

Alan, looking at davids today, there really needs to be a straight axle lockout so that you can do away with the rear knuckles. This would allow the use of less backspacing wheels to further bring in your track width. But then to do the front, you will be smacking the steering knuckle. So one would need possibly make an adapter....maybe I can snag Davids one day and hack it up without him knowing :lol:

Time for a little update:

One of the concerns about the OCM Crawler was the width of the axles. After much discussion and debate, on the advice of Kamikaze I put the VF Assassins on to see how much difference they would make.

Here is the before shot, stock Axial wheels and Losi Rock Crawl tires. It measured in at just shy of 11 1/4".

And after, with the VF Assassins for the WK/Clod, is slimmed it down to 10 1/8"!!

These wheels are so much nicer in person than in any picture I have seen! They narrowed the tire nicely and the offset is as good as I could expect.

Well that's a lot more like it.

Again though, I have this concern, and your narrow track width picture shows exactly why. I can see your motor hanging out!

Your knuckles are at about zero caster as is though right?

I was thinking about buying one as another truck to play with but I looked on amains site and there 380. I thought the begining of the thread said they were 255 lol. Oh well I'll stick with two axials. lol I might just steal yours when your not looking dave. lol

Unless you clock the motors up above the axles... But really isn't needed since you have a 10in track width.

Great thread! I'm really really impressed by this kit, and it seems like I've found something to pine over as a next rc vehicle! Very well-thought-out design, and glad to know that someone involved with the distribution is listening to what seasoned RC crawlers have to say.

yes, for now. I am going to drill the gearboxes so the tubes can be clocked. Until then, it will be caster monkey!
Have you played with drilling the case yet? My spare case should be delivered by this weekend, so I was wondering how it went................if it went.;-)
