Ode To The Technician

:mrgreen::mrgreen:

I can make time on anything(warranty) but turbo's. I always bitch at my service manager that GM's warranty time on turbo's is not right.

The turbo's oddly enough were easy enough for me to change, but it all still sucks. I'd rather rip out a trans and rebuild it. Or even better change a set of noisy lifters on a new 6.2L under warranty. GM pays pretty good on internal engine work.

I know what you mean shit up untill about a year ago I hadnt touched anything under 680ci and less than 3 axles, I started my own shop and roadside service company .." gonna get all of that $80 an hour labor for me right" way wrong shit its so hard to get work now days I got more lawn mowers in my shop than trucks and still scraping pennies off the floor for lunch..

If I could do it again I'd probably be the snap on guy sitting in the a/c taking all that money instead of the other way around..

The only problem with being a tool guy would be having to buy every tool that is on your truck, even though it's at a pretty good discount, you still have to buy them. And in this economy people can't make their payments so you effectively are loaning tools out instead of selling them. Snapon likes me because I pay my bill on a monthly basis at the first of the month, and whenever I have extra cash I pay him.

Oh believe me if I know now what I knew then :mrgreen: I prefer the kodiak/topkicks over the pickups.

I'd just love to have a topkick lol. The duramax is a little easier to work on, but WTF did they have to move the fuel filter into an even harder to reach location on a truck that has the front clip come up? LOVE engineers lol

Been turning wrenches since '90 when I graduated HS... I have made good money and not so good at times, depends on so much these days. But like Dieselfuel said big diesels is where its at!! Since I switched to heavy equipment I have enjoyed wrenching a lot more than before, worked for the local Cat dealer, a small construction company and now a pretty big pre-cast concrete company. Like the poem says we have to know EVERYTHING! More so in a place like I work now... I can be changing oil on a Komatsu loader in the morning, then troubleshooting computer/pneumatic controlled concrete mixer problems next. Then replacing a VFD on an overhead crane after lunch. They think a technician can just fix anything because it has gears and parts and stuff but some of the equipment we have was made in the 50's, we have limited info on them and even harder time finding parts for them... but we need it now, that's all I ever hear anymore. I am getting tired of this BS though... I would gladly hand over the tools to my Boss and say if you think it's so easy you show me how it's done! A** Hole!
