Regular or Electric Razor?

When I shave my head, for the first time in the Spring, I have the barber use clippers, 0 cut, no blade guard. Then I go home and use a Norelco triple head, (like cutting grass with a lawnmower), brings the hair down to a stubble, then a Remington Micro Screen to clean it up, and finally any type of skin lotion, aloe, and a flex head double or triple blade disposable razor to finish it off for a baby's butt smooth dome. After this initial treatment, once a day with a flex head disposable and water, and it cleans up nice daily.

Some philips clippers to trim and mach 3 for shaving. The philips clippers are pretty good, length adjustable
and the end pops off to trim up the side burns. Even has a vacuum in it,which would probably work
if the little door on the side wasnt broken.

Used to use the old sensor excel then went to the mach 3. The moving of the head took a bit to get used
to but it gives a nice shave.

The thing i have problems with are nose trimmers.Ended up destroying one as it
didnt have enough guts. Dont know whats going on in my nose but that hair is
like wire. Got a nice little panasonic er430, if you need a nose trimmer with some balls
get this one.

If you want to get a closer shave with an electric and not rip your face to crap, you have to invest in a pre-shave. I have used the 'Kyoku electric preshave' on and off for a couple years. It is an excellent product, it makes your facial hair stand up straight, while offering a lube of sorts.

Norelco multigroom for shaping and reducing. Fusion proglide for a polished finish.

Do i think the 5 blades are worth it, no. But i do feel like i make fewer passes to get the job done

Schick extreme III & Edge shave gel after a hot shower for me. I get about 4-5 shaves out of one before I toss them, prob could get more but I can feel the blades getting dull after about 3-4 shaves. EX-wife got me a electric razor one year for a b-day or Christmas present- I hated it just doesn't feel like a good shave.

I've been considering joining the Dollar Shave club, razors are pretty much same price as what I use- but I'll never be without a fresh blade because they ship them to you.

I hate shaving. I only do it when my wife complains or when the boss says it's time (usually before SCBA training). Plus I have horrible skin and always break out after shaving. Recently I bought some razors from DorcoUSA that a coworker recommended. They seem to work pretty good and I don't get as many zits or ingrown hairs afterwards.

Holy crap - thread revival! :ror: I don't shave any more... just use the clippers after letting it go for a few weeks, my lady likes it scruffy. :D

I hate electric shavers... they have high rpm, light weight spring loaded blades that cut a single hair into several pieces. There are times when the best shavers will pull a hair insted of shearing it. Linear reciprocating shavers are good, but its hard to use it yourself.

I use a classic single blade shaver when I keep a french cut beard otherwise Mach 3.

When I started shaving, 30 years ago, I used a Philishave.
When the blades on that were blunt I changed over to a Gillette Sensor Excel, been using those ever since.

When I saw the title to this thread, a book I had as a kid sprung to mind.

I've thougt about using good old single edge safety razor, what's a good brand? Where do you buy them, do they work well, cut yourself more or less?

It's a little bit of a learning curve, but a great shave once you get the technique down. In the beginning I would get a small cut here and there, but now I rarely get one. There are tons of good razors out there like Merkur, Edwin Jagger, etc... but I use a Gillette Tech from the late 1930's/early 1940's time frame with Astra blades and really dig the combo. I have a cheap badger hair brush and currently rotate between Arko and Sir Hare Bay Rum shave soaps. I've seen a few subscription boxes floating around the web lately for safety razors. It would be a good way to give things a try since it's an all-inclusive package. It's much cheaper than using a cartridge razor.
