Szczerba's 2012.2 Secret Agent'd 3.5 Bodiless Berg

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I just wanted to make sure my thinking was not out to lunch.

Can't pass if you're following

I do really like the DLux CF wheels for foam tuning. 6 screws per wheel and foams can be changed. "thumbsup"

"A little slow wheel speed and I get my tough climbs on my rock pile"

I hear that! I don't find myself doing a lot of burns with my gold's...if I let the tire do the work, it gets it done.

I am used to slowing down and letting the pins work. So it's a natural process for me.

"You don't have to get super soft foams to compensate for a firmer compound." -Hittman

As they say in the corporate world, this is a "paradigm shift"

Good to know. I was going to try a soft setup with the blue dots today for the sportsman rig.

How come you went from a 5.25 straight to a single stage? I guess what I am really wondering is, why didnt you naturally want to step up to a 5.5 inner and then from there if it was too soft, step up to a 5.5/medium outer?

Shane mentioned to me that the Voodoo tire was wadding up like a drag slick. I immediately thought about Panther Cougars and the issues we had using them years back. The tires would hook but had no sidewall support and would load up easy. People found that a stiff oversized foam (Panther f400) worked great and that became the go-to foam for the Panther Cougar.
I had to talk him into using trying these foams.. at first I think he was a lil' skeered.

You confident enough them yet to run them at ECC yet? Or are you gonna stick with your previous stuff? Being a taller tire how does it effect side hill situations? Curious to see further testing results as I know you will test the funk out of them:ror:. I hope they meet up with expectations because they are good looking tires"thumbsup"

Edit: went back a page and saw your words on the side hilling issue!

Agreed.

Yes, I will be running them on both the 2.2s and 2.2pro at ECC. I do alot of my testing at comps anyways.
Sidehill characteristics can be tuned with foams regarding these tires. Depending on compounds.

3,500mah more testing. Truck floated between 4lbs 2oz and 4lbs 4oz depending on foam/tire used for this testing.

I think the Single Stage Double Deuce Pair (2) with the Golds will be too soft for rigs over 4lbs. I tested the Soft and Mediums but have not tested the firms. I do not have firms on hand.
The Single stage CI foams and Golds might be an option for sub 4lbs trucks.

Swapped to testing some 5.25" and 5.5" Closed Cell Inner Double Deuce foams.

Golds (Softest VooDoos Compound):
5.25" CI DD with Medium Outers up front
5.5 CI DD with Firm Outers out back

Blues (Firmest VooDoo Compound):
5.25" CI DD with Medium Outers up front and Medium Outer Tuning Rings
5.5" CI DD with Medium Outers

The Blues on all four corners felt more consistent and have more bite compared to the Golds. A couple hundred MAH's and I really liked the feel of the Blue setup listed above on this berg. "thumbsup"

I then put the Gold fronts setup with the Blue rear setup. Kinda dug this setup too. Fronts really grabbed and pulled harder but still wadded up on hard uphill digs looking for traction. A little loss of traction there. I could adjust the motor mixes and feather the front wadding to minimize it some. This mixed compound setup may have it's place.

Side note. I need an intern to change my foam setups for me.

they got the right man testing these out for sure , thanks for the info so far ...keep it coming "thumbsup"

thanks. I didn't get a set of the Silver dot compounds. Those may be a good middle of the road compound. It's between the Gold and the Blue.

I tested some setups on my 2.2s rig and they were figting that setup. That is going to be another tuning session but I think the blue/blue or gold/blue setups above will work for it. The taller tires are messing with the geo on my 2.2s rig. Had to do some shock tweaking.

Couple notes continued from page 15.

1. The VooDoo's are a taller tire. So you will have to adjust your driving style and shock external and internal limiters possibly.
2. The Gold compound is really nice and soft but still holds its shape. Too short and soft of a foam will cause tire wading which effects contact patch.
3. Get your foam tuning hat on and be patient. These tires are going to work with several foam setups you'll just have to find the one that suits you and your rig.
4. These tires are lighter so you may need to move some weight around on your truck.
5. Thanks to Ottsix for the new tire.

I also really appreciate all the advise on this. Great information. I appreciate how you have focused on weight impact of the trucks themselves.

No problem and I don't mind sharing any and all of my setups. Just ask. "thumbsup"

Looks like you may get a chance to see how they do on wet rock soon.

Thinking Golds

Do you have any older open cell inner/outer foams? Tried them yet?

I got my first set of prototype closed cell inners from Eddie back in the 2010 or 2011 and never used any other style of foam since. Before then I ran inner wheel supports, so I was used to the setup.
I gave all my open cell inner foam setups to a new local guy last year. He got lucky!

Ah gotcha, yeah he did score!
