What did you do to/with your Ascender today

I may have thought that if in the first two years of constant experience with them I ever had the heat issue. The first one that failed in particular had never exhibited excessive heat until it started locking up the rig so I don't think it's inherent to the component.

To clarify... When I say "hot", I don't mean it in a literal sense. It is something to do with how they use power. I tried to find the post where Holmes explained it, but I had no luck.

Yeah, ok, duh...you even put it in parentheses. Guess I was a little slow on the uptake this morning.

In any case, my dying examples were physically hot. I know John Rob has said that servos last longer on higher voltage. In retrospect I may well have been better served running a BEC where I could have adjusted input voltage higher than nominal from the ESC, since the SW3 doesn't offer that programming feature.

Slapped another BPC Battery re-lo kit on the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers K-10...

I was looking for some RULR's and then it hit me... The old floating battery tray mounts looked right... So here are a few proof of concept pics I managed for the time being...

Heck yes I have recommended this mod to others it's great!

I figured I can't be the first to see this....

I have a better solution to what I have in the pics... Need to get a m3x80-sh screw and nut with some S/S tubing as a sleeve and it should be solid....

I shotgunned the electronics today, replacing the Sidewinder with a Hobbywing 1080 and installing a DS3218 servo. Was a good time to remove and flush the still original Axial motor, check the spur, clean everything up and do a bumper-to-bumper health checkup.

Operation is much smoother with the Hobbywing, as expected. Nice fringe benefit to get rid of the annoying buzz that was ever present in the Savoxes.

It appears that there's at least two versions of the DS3218, one with white/red/black leadwires and sticker on top of case like yours (Amazon seller claims it has 270* control angle)
https://www.amazon.com/DS3218-update-digital-Waterproof-Control/dp/B01N0XZOZU

and one with orange/red/brown lead wires without sticker on top of case (seller claims 180* control angle aka rotational degrees)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU7TQV8/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

Specs given for both are exactly the same and voltage claims 4.8-6.8 volts, is one better than the other and who's running it on 7.4v?

Finally got the new tires on, only ran for about 30 min before the front driveshaft pin broke. So far I like them. Mostly ran in dirt and up a wash before it broke. Didn’t really get a chance to climb the steep rock stuff but going to try this weekend after I get the mips on.

Installed wertymade front bumper, going to put a couple of light pods on it. Has a lifetime warranty against breakage. Only negative is it’s a little over priced at $60

the vaterra plastic is very strong! i doubt you will bust the battery tray mounts off using them as a RULR, but one of the Vaterra alloy option parts is the battery tray mounts, two small seperate alloy pieces, I always though they were RULR's in disguise! not free though......

I like you bumber and the BFG M/T are too cool!!!

Thanks! Still not sure about the tires. Im using proline dual stage inners and some home made outers. There were things Iv climbed pretty easy with the hyrax tires and these struggled and sections where I didn’t think I had a chance and they made it up no problem. I’ll give it another pack or 2 to break in and then test them against my other tires but I think they do look pretty cool.

Looks great and I think Wertymade is one of the best made metal crawler bumpers and will actually take some abuse. I've done plenty of cutting and welding and his prices are very reasonable for the quality parts we get. "thumbsup"

X2, I've got those optional Vaterra aluminum mounts and they are very nice! "thumbsup"

Tires look great, but they need the mold release soaked and scrubbed off with Simple Green and water to get them started. Unless they are just terrible (which I doubt) I'd give them a month of crawling to get broken in properly. Some different foams might help too, but use them awhile first. "thumbsup"

Yeah I simple green all my tires when new and after every use so Im sure they will get better over time. One thing Iv learned in this hobby is you get what you pay for.. usually. One reason I chose the bumper besides the looks is the warranty and the fact that they stand behind their product. It’s nice and beefy and feels like it can take some abuse.

Natedog, there's no functional difference between the two if you are using them in rc land vehicles - they will not be given signals to go a full 180deg or 270deg in these applications.

I bought the 270deg by accident, yet it has functioned in the same manner as my other servos. Just get whatever's cheapest! "thumbsup"

The weekend was rained out so I spent some time making a new tray for the Ascender. I was limited to whatever I had floating around ... just need a cab now.

Nice job on the bed! Looks like I’m your first order just leave the ford emblem off though. I just got a Toyota hilux body and don’t like how the rear bumper sits so low so I’m thinking it might be time for a flatbed. Dude if you ever want to sell one let me know

Yes, I was wondering if one had a better track record than the other. Very rare in cars to need that much rotation, but I've been glad to be able to add a few degrees each way for max steering with my Hitecs in Ascenders. :)

Great way to spend a rainy weekend, wish we had some rain every afternoon to clear the air. Help put out all the dam fires too. Bed looks great, maybe hardbody like Tamiya HiLift Ford cab or something from AsiaTees? :)

Trimmed up some wheel wells from some gallon jugs.

I have read your other posts and learned that you are a CNC machinist, those wheels are AWSOME!!!!

We all wanna know more, please start your own build thread!
