Default MSD UTE build: The Blue Lux

With my chino clone heading to its new home tomorrow I needed a full bodied Hilux to replace it with. I have been gathering parts for some time now and finally have something worthy of posting

The Blue Lux

Specs so far:
MSD UTE 11" WB (because I am a dumbass and ordered the wrong size)
Bruiser front leafs, small leaf removed
Bruiser front spring perch and 2/3 cell battery bars for shackles
TLT axles featuring full bearings, RCP Crawler axles C, straight axle adapters, and knuckles
RC4WD Steel wheels sprayed flat black
RC4WD Custom siped rock crushers by Nova's Ark
Rear axle truss
RC4WD 90mm dual coil over shocks
Hilux body I grabbed from the BST

Truck was suppose to be a full leafer but since I ordered the wrong size I am going with a 4 link rear...going to kick it old school and make sure the rear tires SMASH into the rear wheel wells

Here are some more pics

Half doors, previous owner had good ideas but just didnt finish the mods that smoothly, I will be going back through them all and smoothing them out

Bob'd bed and trimmed flares

Rolling chassis so far

I knew I needed to do something different with this one, so it wouldnt end up as just another Hilux build. So out came the dremel

Then some reinforcement

Then some measuring

This is my 1st attempt at a dop bed, they arent as hard as I thought. This one will lack alot of the real details of a real bed but itll still be cool

I took the tail gate off, was going to hinge it but I have some other ideas instead...

That is it for now...

Plans are:
Interior, not that I would be something without one
GD400 under the hood to a disruptor TC if that works out im thinking an engine and opening hood
Sliders and rear bumper
And more stuff as I go a long...we'll see where it goes...

Thanks for looking
-Mike

I can't belive the "Clone" is gone but I guess sometimes we need to move on and try other things. This build is looking good so far, can't wait to see what else you do.

looking good mike guess you will just have to build a 2nd one with a 12" UTE chassis.

I always tell myself "Alright this one Im not going to go nuts with, I just want to build it, run it and enjoy it..." However, I start to get caught in ridiculous modifications and next thing you know the "simple" build isnt so so simple. For example, I am pretty sure when I get home...the drivers side fender might fall

Ill be sticking with the TLTs for now, I dont want to buy something I dont have to as I also focusing on getting my parts together for my 1:1 4runner SAS.

I like the way the chassis is coming together with the build so far so it definitely wont be my last...the next one will be a lot longer then a 12"...I have a special crew cab that I really want to get going on as well...a long with all my other projects

Yeah the shackles worked out well, the opening on them is slightly larger then the stock Bruiser shackle but itll work just fine. It actually worked out better then the Bruiser shackle because the Bruiser was a lil long and it had some negative caster which I wasnt happy about.

More to come guys, Thanks for looking, I hope to make this another great one

After looking at your other posts I would venture to guess that this will end up line the rest... which is not a bad thing. Keep up the good work.

Looks good so far!, not to get off topic but what all are you doing to your 4runner are you linking it? I might be out of the loop on how much an SAS costs now?

The SAS will run me about 3K before tires...

Trail-gear kit: 1099 3' springs for a total of a 4" lift
85 Front axle with Bobby long birfs, 4.88 yukons, ARB air locked, etc etc picking it up from a friend for a 1000, its all NEW built never even ran
I then need:
Matching rear leafs
steering box brace

and I am sure there will be other MISC stuff as I go a long the way

Truck isnt swapped yet, I am picking up the axle this week and once my other funds hit my bank account im ordering the kit and whatever else I need from trail gear.

I ordered on friday my Marlin Crawler front bumper with stinger and a pair of sliders for it

Here is what I am working with

Updates will probably only happen the weekend unfortunately, have way to much going on during the week

So on to some updates I was pretty much hating myself for messing up and ordering the wrong the chassis:-x I really wanted another full leafed truck soooooo I hit up mogger and bit the bullet and bought the correct one

I slapped the new chassis together earlier in the week and then today I did work on the drop bed like it was my professional job to do so

Here is the latest

I know the wheel wells are to big, and Stu pointed out that a real hilux has a single wall bed. I learned alot doing this one and I know my next one will be better. Overall I am happy with the results, I think it looks descent.

Here is the stance now, sits much lower now too which I like better

I am really happy with the flex so far, it doesnt have anything drive train or anything in it yet

The leafs arent even chino modded yet

That is it for now, back to work... I just hacked the dash board off of a Bruiser interior and I think I might have another trick up my sleeve for the cab

Thanks for looking
