Default Harley's Doodlebug - The Redneck Millionarie

This is a throwback to growing up! I grew up in the country and we would use what has been called a doodlebug to do misc utility jobs (picking up hay, gathering firewood, hauling dead stuff, and my first fullsize expierence with recreational four-wheeling ). They were just a regular truck with the body taken off and some sort of bed built on to it.

Doodlebug is the colloquial name for a home-made tractor made in the United States during World War II when production tractors were in short supply. The Doodlebug of the 1940s was usually based on a 1920s or 1930s era Ford automobile which was then modified either by the complete removal or alteration of some of the vehicle body. Wikipedia
I don't have a picture of the one I was most familiar with as a kid but it was based off a 60-70's truck. It didn't have anything covering the motor, had a wood bench seat and a wood flatbed.

Here are some random examples from Google:

Started with your standard issue Honcho kit.

Assembled it the disassembled it shorty after. Then I stripped all the paint off the frame so the rusting process would begin.

After that I started messing around with some cardboard to start figuring out what I wanted. I cut up a CF100 body but will likely use the Axial Rat Rod body.

Now that I had my idea I called Jerry at the DMG and told him I was coming over!

So I showed up last night and we started bending some rod.

I don't think Jerry knows the meaning. He just jumps in and gets it done!

I didn't want the shocks above the bed so I made an SUPER simple inboard mount. Then just slid the cross member to where I wanted it and redrilled the frame rails.

After that was sorted we started mocking up the bed area.

Is that a mock-up, or are you planning on mounting your shocks to the rear of the axle like you have shown?

Interesting...

They will be attached like shown for the most part. Beef tubes will keep the threads held. The spring rate is not far off but needs to be limited when the final shocks get installed.

Finished up the bed.

Put the cardboard back in to visualize the wood bench seat and flatbed area.

A 5250 3s pack will sit just behind the roll bar. It will be covered by a utility box.
