Update 3: Got the front electronics all finalized and the front light mounted up inside. Here it is sitting(not mounted) in the front cavity. Hood affixed atop of it. The transmission will be sitting further forward on the stock SCX10 skid plate. This brought up to issues. 1. Mounting the trans solid and 2. A much shorter drive line, as well as a longer setup for the rear. To take care of issue #1 I sent MTHead(John) a pm and with his help I was able to get this made up to mount the trans. Can't wait for these to show up. Thanks again man. I opted to stay with MIP drive lines and am running the MIP X-Duty vxl/slash etc drive lines. Note that they come with only 2 5mm couplings, the other 'end' is a stud axle with a 4mm thread on the end. For the rear I'm running MIPs spline for the Traxxas Summit. Mated with a regular AX/SCX10 female coupling. Finished painting the faux exhaust pipe. |

Update 4: Unable to find any concrete measurements on the Axial Exo Terra rear light bar, I took the plunge and ordered one up. To my luck, it was of course to wide. For anyone wondering, from its widest points, the light is 119mm. I opted to make my own. I need to order more of the light buckets as Axial gives you 2 big, and 2 small buckets. Don't mind the 'rough' cuts for the buckets themselves. The wires will run through and out the back. I will install a small grommet of some sort to 'fill in' the hole. I also received the mercury tilt switches. Can't wait to wire one up and try it out. These measure 37mm long, 8.75mm wide, and 10mm tall with the included 3m double sided tape. |

Update 5: Albeit a small update, the rig wouldn't be able to move very far without this one. Received the trans mounts the other day from MTHead. I wasn't sure if I was going to mount the setup raised a few millimeters or not so I didn't bother mentioning cutouts to clear the extrusions on the skidplate itself. I notched one of them out. Here it is mocked up. One of the 'closer' set of holes will essentially be re-used for mounting the trans itself. Also made up some number plates in Lexan. |

Hmm, number plates. Nice touch, I'm gonna have to steal that one.

Yeah, brazing on 3mm nuts for body panels is probably my most dredded thing when working on a rig. On a recent project, I got lucky and had an extra hand; without help though, I would've been there for a couple hours.

I have always liked this rig, plus it drove great last time I saw it. Really enjoying this rebuild so far. |

Put together some links, hope to get those cleaned up. I may add a threaded tab to 2 of the rears for possible limiting straps; other thought is to just mount them to the axles.

Update 6: Got some free time recently to mock up the transmission on the adapter from MTHead. I am currently undecided on the gear ratio I want to run. As it is, with the clutch system and an 87 spur it touches the front V bar. Got around to making some links with Axial ends and Traxxas hallow ball ends. Used some of Axials cone washer up front on the hood. Undecided on an interior setup. If I go with a styrene 2D, I see a lot of time being spent on that. On the other hand, I may opt for an HPI Trophy Truck/HPI Rally car 2D interior. The tubing, I will run thinned yellow paint through it for a 'discolored' gas line look like on previous rigs. |

glad to see this new trans mounts setup made from MTHead. I think I may need one of that for my other rig, how much for that trans mounts?? |

Update 7: Alright, so it's a roller. The links aren't set up exactly as I'd like, but it does have some good articulation and smooth movement. I'll eventually polish these up or paint them so they don't look so bland. Here it is mounted up with some Proline TSL SX tires on o.g Axial 1.9 bead locks. I personally love these MTHead bead lock rings even if they aren't like the original. I also have some different tires on the way. Although the 1:1 rig has run similar tires, I just don't feel like these really fit right. |
