It does have some nice points! I can only take credit for the rework, rewiring, wood work, and some engineering changes. It was originally built by Whitebone...who is no longer in the business. One of his last great works!

Im kinda wishing I would have done this myself, oh well I would have never got to it. IMO the perfect tow rig. The same thing I was gonna do with it.

It's coming along. Doing all of this in my truck during my down time doesn't leave me as much time to work on it as I'd like. It's really tough to get this Tractor/Trailer into these little hobby shops around the country too when I'm trying to find parts! And very few of them carry a decent selection of the parts that I'm looking for. I'm stuck ordering what I "think" will work and hoping for the best. It is kind of funny, the attention I get when I walk into one of these little shops carrying this chassis! Everyone wants to know what it is and where they can get one! LOL! When I explain that I ordered it piece by piece and put it together, they don't believe me! Oh well.

Ok, so for someone who has no experience with styrene, and has never attempted to do anything like this before, I think my drop bed came out pretty good! The first pic is of a real Chevy bed. The next ones are of what I actually made. If anyone is curious, I used real bed liner spray to paint it. I was worried that it might be too thick or warp the styrene. I also worried about the texture not looking scale. Tell me your opinions. I think it came out a lot better than I expected for my first attempt!

Ok, here's a question for the experienced builders... I've seen some of the pickup builds where they separate the cab from the bed. Is there any reason to do that or not do it? I'm just wondering if I should?

All righty then... Moving right along! Am I the only one on here with ADD!? No matter where I'm at on this build, if something pops into my head, I have to try it! So I was going to order bumpers for this thing but got to thinking... The monster steel bumpers in real life are not round. They are squared pieces welded together. I CAN MAKE THAT! So....off I go! This is obviously just a start. It's all I had time for this morning.

No real benefit to making the body two pieces just a small scale detail. Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk |

Well, made some progress on the bumper this afternoon. I'm very happy with it so far! I will close up the sides too but that will have to wait until I get the light bar and fog lights installed. The last pic shows where they'll be. Next step while I wait to get the lights will be to do some sort of bars on the top to protect the grill. I just added a couple of pics of the under side of the bumper. Last edited by Hwheeler73; 03-01-2014 at 04:21 PM. |

Really like the bumper, very beefy. One question though, you think a styrene bumper will hold up? Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk |

Well if I don't run it into anything then it won't matter! LOL! I'm just messing with you. Actually, I didn't set out to build strength in this bumper, just looks. In the building of it though, I've needed supports to keep everything in line and it's turned out a lot stouter than I expected! Plus there will be a metal plate incorporated for the winch. The way it will be mounted, the winch will actually pull against the frame of the truck, not the bumper or the body. The styrene that I'm using is .040 as well, so like I said, it really is pretty stout. I'm not planning on crawling with it or anything like that so it's really more for looks than anything else. I'm planning on building a rear bumper as well. Same goes for it though, I'm going to pull a gooseneck trailer with it so it'll be for looks too.

Looking amazing. Your drop bed is flat out astonishing. I love it. I almost dont believe you have no experience With styrene. How did you get those little flares on the inside of the wheel well?

| I think you're talking about the "bumps" between the floor and almost to the top of the fender well? After I had the right shape for the fender well, I just cut another piece of styrene in the shape that I wanted and glued it over the already formed fender well. Heat works really well to make the styrene bend smooth. Not too much though! It'll turn to goo! If I didn't answer your question, please try asking again in a different way. Maybe I misunderstood.

Ok, the drop bed is fully installed! Next I've set the mounting crossmembers up on the cab and the bed and marked the holes on the chassis for where they line up. Next up... Time to cut them apart! I asked Lappdogg about it sense he's going to do the paint job for me. His response to my question, "why would you and should I cut the cab and bed apart?", was "It's more scale to do it that way and that's what we do here." So we'll see how it goes! I've set up all of my mounting points now, before I cut them apart so I am sure that they will sit right after they are apart. |
