So cool! I love your printed engines! Hey.... Can you print me a 22r?

Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug

Thanks. At the speed I take to print one of these it'd be years to print a 22r never mind design it.

Theres a working model of the 22RE on thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2661832

Not ideal for us as it must be heavier than it needs to be for our purposes.

Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug

So, how good is this. I'm thinking to myself that maybe it would be nice to put dual carburetors on this engine so last night I go looking on the internet for some pictures to try to model and then 3D print. I stumbled across this. A guy by the name of maiersbus posted printable 3D carbs on February 2 on Thingiverse. He even showed pictures of the carbs mounted on the same stl of the engine that I printed. They were posted full scale but printing them at 1/10 scale seems to work. Serendipity at its best.

A bit of cleanup is needed and some glueing. I have some new 0.2mm nozzles coming so I may reprint when they get here. This was printed with a 0.4mm nozzle.

Either way, atleast you wont have to sync the carbs every fill up practically. Lol

That’s true, these dual Weber’s are all for show. They called them IDFs on Thingiverse.

Oh man, that engine looks so detailed! You've got me looking at 3D printers now...

Still slowly plugging away at that engine but also started messing around with a chassis. A local guy makes this chassis so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Here I'm trying to get the links sorted out. Using all thread at the moment. This is turning into a slowwww build.

Wow that chassis looks like it has a ton of drop to it, thats pretty cool. I feel like the skid on my on going build is a fair bit higher. Originally I wanted something like that but I imagined less of a drop.

Keep up the good work "thumbsup"

Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug

Thanks man. Yeah it's a big drop all right. They basically follow the inner fender shape of the body. Very little height on the shock supports and lots of room for a steering servo on the axle. We'll see how it works with those narrow axles and tiny tires.

And here it is again with everything (ie the skid, transmission, battery plate and ESC mount) all the right way around. I think I was half asleep when I put it all together the first time. Playing around with an idea for hub caps after seeing this 2011 thread that someone dredged up earlier this morning. Still need to figure out how to attach them firmly.

Looking good! I was wondering where those hub caps came from, 3D printed I assume?

Is there any thread left on the axle to use for mounting?

EDIT: it looks like there is some thread still exposed

Nope not 3D printed, they’re aluminum. Craft cover buttons from Michaels craft store. Here a pic.

These wheels come with a screw in hub cover that I’m hoping to use.

Looking so good!! I used those cover buttons on my 34 ford, tho' I couldn't get them to fit G-made wheels, using the backing piece that comes with them and a second locking nut on the drive shaft end. I was lucky with the depth of thread left showing when the wheel nut was on.

I tend to spend a fair amount of time in haberdasheries (sp?), having a full set of females in my life to date! Mother, 4 sisters, wife, two daughters..one sister even having a fabric shop in Virginia when she left Wales. Upside is you find loads of useful stuff..downside is I think I've suffered from the effects of PMT more than most females!!

Thanks Mike, good idea on the backing plate. I’ll give that a whirl. And yeah, you can find some useful stuff in those shops. A fella here made some great seatbelts from ribbon. Had me looking at that as well.

Cheers eh,

Todd

I used black shoe laces to make my seat belts
