Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Yeah, but if I had your engine I might be finished this build. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Mirrors and hubcaps are DOPE, and the wheel/tire combo is so perfect. Excellent build thread! |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Thanks Durok. It’s getting there. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug As others have said those wheels and hubcaps make the car. Engine isn’t too shabby either "thumbsup" |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Thank you sir. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Got a little sidetracked today. I made a thing... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4547-66844.jpg |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Er.. think you've missed out the oil pressure switch!!!! Seriously what a thing of beauty. Just how much more detail you can achieve, I can't think. What scale is that, if I may ask? Great work, as always Todd, thankyou. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Oh crap, you're right mate! And thanks. It's 1/10 scale ...ish. The one on my Carisma is 1/8.66 scale ...ish. Nice thing about 3D printing is that you can scale to any size you want. I bought the file for a 1/5 scale engine and have modified as needed. Hollowed out the cylinders for this pic. Might have to hollow out a crank case as well for that stand. I'm thinking of building a garage diorama for pictures, hence the engine stand. It'll be slower than my regular build though. Cheers Mike, Todd |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Awesome work, big fan of your last bug build as well! |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Thanks Devwon. Printed a few more bits for the bench. Now I ought to build one. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...547-66845.jpeg |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Amazing work! That is the most detailed scale engine I've seen. Keep up the good work. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Thanks man. I’m spending way too much time on this engine. Gotta get this bug driving. Printing a crankshaft as I write this. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Hey Tossedman! - can I ask you a huge favor? Can you post the measurement of the inside wheel diameter? I am thinking these wheels in white would serve nicely as old-school rally wheels on either a Traxxas 4-tec 2.0, a Tamiya MF01X or a Tamiya Mini chassis and I am trying to figure out if they will clear the steering and suspension components. The inner edge-to-edge distance of the back lip as shown here: https://www.snakepitrc.de/WebRoot/St...6/1000273b.jpg |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Sure, it's 1.72 in or 43.69mm. Edited to read 1.72 in. I cannot type. |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Much appreciated, my man! Looking forward to more of your incredible build... |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug I swear we must be close to the point where we can print these parts in metal (which we can already) and make real scale working engines which has been done too, but for RC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aG8vvqE5GV0 |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Cool! You can 3D print in metal but then you'd have to machine any places where tolerances and smoothness are important. Same way things are cast and then machined. But then is a 3D printed part strong enough? Dunno? |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Quote:
Yeah probably not, its basically sintered metal which isnt that great for strength. Seems like all of these videos of tiny engines have them running for very short periods probably due to heat or other limitations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Sand Scorcher Crawler - Another Bug Got a new mechanic working on the engine today. New bench too. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4547-66853.jpg |
