Looks great Chris. Pat makes some badass rings, he made similar ones for the Fat Girl. Who needs headlights for a TTC anyways? I think the stance looks a lot better than the 1:1 Chevy truggy. I've seen that rig before and always thought the front axle way out front looked a little goofy. Have you weighed Pepe yet? I'd be a little worried about running the 3racing winch if this rig has some weight to it. I know I've burned out a couple of those winches in only a single run before trying to haul around heavy rigs. Of course, my winching technique has no finesse to it whatsoever ! |

Pepe looks killer Chris! I still prefer 1.9's over the 2.2's but it is growing on me. |

Thanks a bunch guys. I did weigh Pepe this morning and he was right at 9 lbs. I think that's a reasonable weight of a scaler although maybe just bit porky. The tires and wheels weight in at 3lb 12oz so that makes the rest of the truck about 5lb 4oz. I checked out the courses yesterday and the reliability of the winch is something I am very worried about. I will try to use it as little as possible, that's about all I can do. Hopefully 4ws will help me limit it's use on the Mini Rubicon. I wanted to install a servo winch but just did not have time before this event. Muzz I do agree that it looked more realistic, and a better in a different way, with the 1.9's. I am ready for a new 1.9 rig though and so I thought this would be a fun way to keep Pepe running and not shelf him. I really like the 2.2's on it, but for entirely different reasons than I liked the 1.9's. |

Pepe finished 5th out of 16 trucks. Here's how it broke down: Hill climb: This was a tall wooden wall, think 1/4 pipe with grip tape on it. The gates were positioned like a slalom course up the ramp. Pepe went through with a really good time. Because of the 4ws I didn't have to back up for any gates. At some point during the event they changed the scoring so that you only had to get the front tires through the finish instead of the rears. This was a big deal because the finish was on a nearly vertical part of the ramp and those of us that had to get the rear tires through went really slow to try and keep the front from lifting. I thought I had a really good run.... Truck pull: Pepe kicked ass and won this event. Mini Rubicon: Due to the time crunch I was not able to install my Torquemaster ESC and had to use the Sidewinder that was already wired up. The rear steer servo was running off the ESC's BEC so when the rear tires got in a bind the truck would shut down. I managed to score a -6 out of a possible -12 with just some reverses and no other penalties so again I thought I had a good run. Tank Trap: This run started out well, I was able to use the rear steer to get around a couple tight turns and get to the 4th mud hole in good time. I had to winch out of the 4th mud hole so that cost some time. Stupid 3 Racing winch. Many others either struggled to get out or winched as well. I then dove off the ledge into the 5th and final mud hole only to land upside down. I was able to right Pepe under his own power but just as I did the plastic spur gear adapter stripped out on the hex shaft and I could not drive forward or reverse. Apparently the nut had fallen off. I was about a foot from the finish and couldn't move. I had to winch across the finish and that cost me quite a bit of time. My run didn't seem to be that much longer than the person who won the overall event but I don't know for sure. Mud Bog: I was able to put on a new nut and tighten the spur gear adapter just enough to get it to engage. The mud was thick and deep and the 7T puller valiantly pushed Pepe to a distance of 6' 9.5" through the 14 ft long pit. A decent run, in the top 5 I think. I'm not sure how the events were scored, I'm hoping they post that up so I can see what it was that hurt my score. I do know this, I should have built more of a mud truck because that event weighed heavily, you got -2 points for every foot so you could get -28 points in the mud bog alone. I was disappointed in my finish but just getting out and competing in another Top Truck Challenge was a great time and I had a blast. We had many spectators watching the event and many of them were excited to try it at the next event. Overall the event was a ton of fun and a big hit.
