| Thanks, off the list... I figured some of these would be taken. I'm trying to stay away from abbreviations and acronyms. MR1 is the "code-name" for the chassis, I thought something simple like 'the mod' or 'the truck', or (as an homage to a good movie), 'the dude'. Basically something distinct, and easy to say, and when anyone hears it they know exactly which chassis it is. |

I was reading a couple days back and saw you were playing with the designs and they all are awesome, and other than weight having a frame 12 inches long isn't so bad you still have to have the body (if you go that route) that needs to be long. Awesome design you have the hole available for straight vertical shocks like a scaler and also the holes for 3.5- 4.0" shocks. Really cool design. If you wanted to make it shorter in length dont keep the "fenders" but I keep forgeting the no-body thing, but if you wanted to cover it up with lexan, and use longer shocks, the fenders are unneeded for the most part, either way this will look awesome.

I think I might be sticking with "Chameleon" for the name, I think it fits the design a lot better than the duke or the dude or anything else I could think up. I'm going to get the plates cut hopefully next week, and should be able to post some pics when that gets in. I started this design because I wanted a bodiless chassis, but I didn't really like what was out there, and I wanted to have a unique crawler as well. I posted the thread to get constructive criticism from veteran crawlers, and now, it seems like there are a lot of people interested in this chassis. I may be getting a vendor star soon, but I am going to take it to a local comp and "feel" out how well they like it before I even consider trying to sell these. It won't be ready by this next comp at red rocks, so I am kind of disappointed, but I need time to tweak my rig before a comp anyway. |

Good luck getting that done. It looks sweet! My vote would be for the slant back SUV or the pickup with the roll bar.

I just sent the file to the cutter, I should hopefully have the plates sometime next week to start testing.

The first prototype of the Chameleon Chassis is on it's way, and I should have it by this weekend.

Of course, but it will probably be in a new thread. I'll post a link to it when I get that going.

Not sure if its been said, but i think you should taper the front and rear into the center of the truck, might not work out if it's only as wide as a skidplate though. Other than that looks sweet |

I'm going off the theory that with a longer distance between the chassis mounting points of the lower links, the greater the link angle will be... Basically think of it like having bent links built into the chassis. Plus it makes it easier to triangulate and work with anti-torque-twist. here's a quick paint illustration: Basically, if the green lines represent the stock axial angles, and the red lines represent my chassis' angles, then the white area is extra clearance that this chassis provides over stock. This is assuming the same belly clearance and wheelbase. Add in some bent links, and that adds a little more to that without sacrificing belly clearance or higher COG. Technically, the breakover angle would be the same, but the link angle would be better and I should be able to clear a few more obstacles (think SWX.) But, then that's what the prototype is for, to test all the theories in real life, spot the weaknesses, and adjust the design as necessary. |
