Default question on new drag link and tie rod

this weekend was my first comp and i broke my servo. i ordered a cs-170 today and i dont think the stock steering linkage is going to work. i do not want to run bta. my knuckles are still stock. i had a pm from a guy with what axial rods i needed to make my own steering linkage but have since deleted it. does anyone know what length rods are needed? or can recommend a good but on the cheap steering linkage replacement? my servo is centered on the axle

I prefer the Traxxas Revo rod end with All Thread method, then you can make them whatever length you need.

I think it's 3:32.
If you run a search you'll be sure to find several "threads"

8-32 all thread and Revo's work well together. You could go metric but I like the coarser thread engagement of the 8-32.

definitely 8/32 all thread.. for tubing i found that my tie rod and lower links bent pretty easy with aluminum tubing so try to find some stainless steel tubing. i've been switching my lower links and steering links to SS tubing and using alum tubing for the upper links because i bought lots of it and it doesnt take the abuse that the lowers do. i will making up some links probably today for my ax10.

I wouldn't worry to much about the steering links before you get your new servo. I would be more worried about if the servo horn will work or not.

Well right now its still the stock plastic linkage where the drag link attaches to the tie rod. I don't think its rigid enough to hold up to all the torque. And the stock servo horn that I have right now should fit the hobbico servo pinion(?). Also when I get the servo do I need to do anything to it or just hook it up and go?

I guess it all depends on your set-up. Do you have a BEC? If you do make sure you have that set at the proper voltage. If you don't.... get one and set it at the proper voltage. I did a quick search and found the servo that you ordered and according to the info that I read the servo only has 250 oz./in. of torque at 4.8 volts which is most likley what your stock electronics will be set at.... now if you have a BEC set at 6Volts you will be able to get 333 oz./in. of torque.
Other than that, you should be able to just hook it up and go.

Good luck!

definitely upgrade the links get rid of the plastic crap.. it cant hold up to the abuse that we put our crawlers through with the truck turned on and turning the wheels you can see the plastic linkage bend even on flat ground.. make/buy one for the drag link too..

as for suspension links you shouldn't need any. the gatekeeper chassis you have comes with good links. for the steering you can just make some. the 8-32 allthread, revo rod ends, and something to sleeve the allthread with works good. or you can buy axial 106mm link (tie rod) and i think its a 73mm link for the drag link
